I love working w/ low-tech midwives, and yet, I admit that if one of them said to me around 8 weeks, "Go get an early ultrasound so we can see the heartbeat," I would totally do it because I'm usually such a wreck the first trimester!

I understand this. My doc is so hands off great and that's why I love going to him. It's literally no stress, I'd be freaked out if he wasn't around this time. During my last birth he didn't even touch me, just sat on my bed and was there if needed. Sometimes though I get a little antsy and want to know is there really a baby in there. Hello! Is anyone home? If I called him up and asked to come in I know he'd hook me up with whatever I needed but I feel like I'm (personally) being neurotic so I sit tight and wait a couple more weeks. I know it won't be very long before everything falls where it should. But lady, I sure hear you.

I'm 8.4 weeks and I haven't seen anyone yet.  I have seen my general doctor for blood pressure meds twice, but they don't seem to be working very well.  I am pretty steady at about 146/98 even on meds.  I've been playing email tag with a midwife so hopefully we'll get to talk soon.  Everything seems so surreal.  I don't have morning sickness.  I didn't have any with my other pregnancies either, so first trimester is so nerve wracking.  Is there really somebody in there? LOL  My dh is out of town, so I am waiting on him to get back so I can see an OB.  I'd really rather not do that, but I need to get my blood pressure under control right away.  I *know* they are going to want to do an immediate ultrasound as soon as I see them.  With the blood pressure thing, I don't mind that much.  I'd rather not.  I'd rather have just the 20 week ultrasound.  We'll see. smile.gif

No ultrasound scheduled, we're going very low tech. Next appointment we should be able to hear a heartbeat through the stethoscope. :) We're not going to find out if the baby is a girl or boy until.... it's born! So many people are surprised by this, luckily for us, they are supportive of us. All natural, no tech. Fun times!

happily low tech here @ 12w3d. I've interviewed & picked out our mw but won't see her for the first appt. until sometime during the 14th week.  I'm planning to use the doppler at our first visit just for DH (he's anxious to be certain someone is in there!) and one ultrasound at 20 weeks.  the only test I'm considering is for diabetes because it runs in my family, but still undecided & leaning towards no testing.

my mom refused to believe I can be sure I'm pregnant without having seen "a real doctor" to tell me so lol. how out of touch does a woman have to be with her body? I just laugh because she claims not to be certain of it but that didn't stop her from telling everyone when specifically told to keep it secret. irked.gif

Same here! I already opted out of the 10 wk "dating" scan (I'm not at 10 wks yet, but I know when I ovulated, and thus see no need for a dating scan) and am unsure whether I want the doppler or the 20 wk u/s. I have been feeling pretty lousy since week 5 so something is going on, but I haven't been feeling suddenly acutely worse to make me think anything is going wrong.
