Okay so let me tell you how my last birth started.  I woke up one night for my usual 5th or so pee and was all wet.  Not much, just my panties\, it didn't go through to pj bottoms so I figured I peed myself.  Changed, went back to bed.  30 mins later, get up again to pee and wet again.  Now in my sleepy state I don't question it too much at first but think its weird.  Still not enough to soak through to my pants.  Still, the longer I am up the more curious I get and look it up online how to tell the difference.  Nothing definitive so I decide I will change one more time and if I wake up wet again, I will know.  As I am lifting my leg to put yet another pair of clean underwear on, I get a small gush.  Okay, no mistaking that one.

Of course, it was 36 hours until my first contraction and as the day wore on, I kept gushing and verix was in the toilet so I didnt have to wonder.

Okay, now to why i am posting.  I was just peeing, got up, still had pants around knees as I have been wearing a panty liner and was changing it, pulled underwear up to just lose fluid or pee myself a bit.  I pulled my pants down, thinking the warm water from washing my hands made me pee more even though I just emptied my bladder so i yank off the pad and throw it away and as I am leaning down to get another from under the sink, more comes out and wets my panties.  Okayyyy that was weird.  I didnt even feel it coming!

I sit on the toilet thinking if more comes out and I see vernix I will know but nothing else comes.  I can't even make myself pee.  I try and smell the fluid but it smells like nothing.  Then again, my pee never smells like anything either unless a drop or two gets on my underwear without a liner and sits for a bit.  For me, pee doesn't smell till its been out of your body for a bit.  I have no way to know what just happened.  AFter the laboring last night to have it just stop, I am scared to even think it could be really something.

Anyone else have this happen and it was just pee?  I believe I have read several stories like that.  All i know to do is put a thicker pad on and wait and see.  If it is indeed fluid, not pee, more will surely come.

By the way, my midwife called me to check up on me after how last night went and said another mom who wasn't due for a couple weeks just had her water break so she wanted to see where I was.  I told her I was fine and everything with me had haulted.  Wonder if that is true now.

Hasn't happened since so must have just peed for some crazy reason.  I swear the end of pregnancy turns you into a elderly person.  You lose all control of your body and bodily functions.  How embarrasing!

It was probably pee if it hasn't happened since but, it is sooo hard to tell. My water broke the same way you described with my first. In this pregnancy, I thought it happen again but, nope just pee. Mine also has no color or odor. I think its from all the water I drink...If you check out about a week ago, we were talking about this in another post on the same topic.

A few times recently I will pee, then about 30 seconds later I will have a small flow again...I keep thinking was that pee or something else...I think the fact that I am 40 weeks and looking for any sign that labor is coming doesn't help.

I can't tell if I'm peeing or if it's water leaking slowly or if it's watery discharge. I've had to start wearing a pantyliner because there's always something extra coming out of there. Once or twice a day (for the past 2ish weeks) I'll feel a small gush and there will be wetness. But I'm certain that it's not amniotic fluid or pee. I think it's just watery vaginal discharge. However, the closer I get to the end of my pregnancy, the more I wonder about every little drop of liquid that comes out below the waist. LOL

I've been wondering the same pretty much b/c I have no idea when my water broke with my last pregnancy. I got to the hospital @ 5-6 cm and was told that my water was broke...

I had asked my ob at the time about a week before that and he assured me I was just peeing on myself.  I've done some ''crotch sniffing'' (ugh lol) Mine ends up smelling slightly amoniaish after it dries so I am pretty sure it's pee.

Yesterday My nerves were in a bit of a frenzy and I have a wonderful tendency to vomit when that happens during the nausea and vomiting I pee'd myself totally unawares...I really thought my water had broke, it went through my pants and even onto the chair it was a lot. I figure if I had lost that much of my amniotic fluid I'd be contracting pretty good by now.

I just love the way kisses make ''booboo's'' all better.

I started 3 labors with my water breaking. The first time I got out of the tub and could not quite figure out if it was bath water or the water bag broken. I went to the hospital and even my mw had to do a quick strip test to determine that it was indeed fluid from the womb. The other two times the kids were not engaged and the amount of fluid in my bed did not make me wonder.

But even the first time there was some sliminess to the fluid so I should have known.

What does it smell like? Amniotic fluid to me has unmistakable smell, like a swimming pool. That's the way I figured out I had broken my water, it was a slow leak as well.

Smelled like nothing.  I left the underwear out and let them dry.  Urine I would have thought would surely smell by then but it never did.  Last time my water broke, I had always heard two different things that amniotic fluid smelled sweet, or like bleach.  I was certain last time it was my water, I had lots of huge gushes and vernix in the toilet but when I smelled it, it smelled like nothing.  So, who knows!  lol.

So weird though, if you look around online for advise of being able to tell the difference, half say  sweet smell, half say ammonia/bleach smell.  So, can it be either or?  Weird.

I am pretty certain it was just pee even though I have been wearing a liner since and they keep getting damp (and smelling like nothing still) so it was either pee, or just the outer layer broke and maybe now a small leak, who knows.  Im just gonna assume pee, lol.
