I don't post as often as some of you, but I've been lurking and posting here now and then. Now our baby is here - Saturday Jeanne, born on a Saturday, but only coincidentally to what we had already chosen as a lovely, optimistic name for our little pea pod! She weighed in at 7 lbs, 8 ounces and was born at 37 weeks. She's healthy, latching on, eating, napping and filling diapers - a relief for these first time parents :) Our midwife is amazed that she was only 37 weeks, because she seemed so ready to be born.
The short story is that my water broke (or I thought it had and wasn't quite sure - like another post I just read) on Thursday night around 2 am. No contractions. The midwife examined me that next day and couldn't determine for sure if my water had broken, but it wasn't leaking, so we officially said no to avoid restrictions on being in the birthing center we had chosen (water breaks and no contractions in 24 hours = pitocin). Went home and waited. After having "i know i've never done this before, but this can't be it" cramps all day, I woke up at 2 am the next night with "this isn't so bad, but i think this is it" contractions. Labored at home for the night and into the next morning, and arrived at the birthing center 8 cm dilated. Walked the halls with my husband, a birthing ball, and our amazing midwife. Got in the tub to crank things up. Pushed for three hours and thought I was going to lose my mind, wondered "where the f**k is this baby?!?!", tried squatting (at the suggestion of my husband, who amazed me with his involvement) and looking in a mirror, saw that little bit of head, got inspired, pushed like hell, and birthed a beautiful little girl! It sounds much easier in writing, but I wouldn't have done it any other way. Now it's lots of witch hazel and sitz baths and moments of pure amazement.
I hope you're all doing well and have wonderful birthing experiences! Thank you for your support throughout many phases, and I'm sure I'll see you in parenting forums in the future...
Yay! So happy for you. Enjoy that sweet little girl! Sounds like a wonderful birth with a very supportive team.
