can't seem to find the old thread. anyone still managing to exercise? i am finally getting back into exercising since mt hemorahg is completely gone. i still have a lot of spotting but from polyps (who gets both polyps and a subchrionic hemorahg?) . so anyhow even with spotting i know it is safe and ok but because i went so many weeks without exercise i am not in such good shape anymore and then all the rain we are having has kept me from going for a bike ride. i have mostly been play wii games. i got a game called walk it out and it is pretty light as far as exercise goes but it feels safe and not scary and it gets me moving for a couple hours at a time. i walked in place for almost 4 miles today and had fun doing it and the game was a lot cheaper than any exercise equipment so for now thats what i am doing. going to try and play game every day and maybe ride bike on the trainer i tend to push myself to hard on the bike trainer though. no coasting on a trainer! anyone else managing to exercise? i gained a lot more weight in the begining than i am happy about i was so depressed and afraid to exercise i didn't eat as well as i could have so trying to make up for it now by eating better and exercising again.

I am doing prenatal yoga at home (2-3 times a week) and then attending a class on Sunday nights. It is pretty gentle but it is a great reminder to get in some fantastic birthing positions and practice kegels. I also wanted exercise where I focus on breathing and relaxing my overthinking brain :) So far I have been pretty good. I am planning on doing yoga again today. I am getting a new DVD this weekend so I will even have some variety!

I still work out 4-5 days a week at our crossfit gym, the workouts can range from light to harder depending on how I'm feeling and what i want to do, but so far i've been able to mainly do the advanced for each day http://www.crossfitmom.com

I'm trying to do a little exercising everyday. I do a prenatal yoga video, walk or take my yoga class at the gym. The gym offers a step class I was interested in and a zumba class, don't know if I'm perky enough for Zumba. sleeping.gif

 

If I'm having a lazy day I still try to do some hand weights while watching some stuff on netflix.

 

There's a bellydancing place within a couple blocks from my home, I'd love to check that out too. I might wait till i'm a little rounder though. :)

 

I want a wii sooooo bad. I almost ran out and bought one a few times this week (there's a great sale onthe console + the wii fit board/game), but then I stop and consider my disdain for the fighting w/the kiddos over "Wii" time. I really limit the media time w/the kids. We own a gamecube and my older DD bugs me everyday to play it (there's 1 game we allow her to play, usually no more than a couple days a week).

My mommy friends all have the Wii and their LO's have the nintendo DS systems so my DD's naturally want those too. shrug.gif

 

DH doesn't want me to get it, he's not really into video games much and figures if I want to exercise I should just go to the gym. The more i hear about how moms get a good workout on it makes me want to buy it, heck, i'd be using my own money.

I have been THE WORST about exercising this time around, and now that I am feeling much better, I don't have as much of an excuse. Besides just getting over the exhaustion/nausea, here are my roadblocks:

-It's been SUPER cold and even icy here (for this area-we are not used to it!) which prevents me from getting out with the stroller

-Neither kid naps at all, and both do not play by themselves very well

-DH works 2 jobs, so sleeps until the last possible moment in the morning, goes to work, comes home, we do the dinner/bath/bed thing, then he heads to his other job, where he stays until 2-3am. Lather, rinse, repeat.

-Both kids sleep very lightly at night, so I can only do quiet activities, thus preventing me from using the old treadmill which works but soudns like something is killing it.

-Then there are the billion and 5 chores I am trying to do to declutter and re-organize before this baby gets here-and yes it will take the remaining 6 months, most likely!

 

So-any suggestions to kick my rear in gear?? Be harsh if you want, I can take it ;) I've done well getting back into pre-pregnancy shape each time, but since this will be our last and I will be 40 (!!) when LO gets here, I am afraid it's going to be a lot harder endeavor this time around, so I want to start out on the right foot. I am mostly a cardio girl-love walking, hiking, running. Not much into DVDs and weight training although I'll do them. We don't have a Wii or anything like that and the gym selection in our area is poor.

 

I'm hoping just subbing to this thread will help get me going a bit, LOL.

I'm hoping to get the go-ahead to exercise tomorrow after my appointment with the perinatalogist. I'll be 12w2d. If he says I'm safe, I plan to do prenatal yoga every other day. I have a DVD, Crunch Mama prenatal yoga or something like that. My dh finally got my treadmill working again so I plan to do that at least the days that I don't do yoga, maybe more if I get really motivated. I'm going to start out with only 20-30 minutes of walking a day because I haven't exercised regularly in a loooooooong time. After a while, I hope to do an hour of walking a day EOD, and prenatal yoga and 30 minutes of walking on the other days.

My last two pregnancies I gained too much weight, around 45 lbs with each. I haven't been able to lose the last 15-20 extra pounds from my last one. I want to keep my weight gain this time as close to 25 pounds as I can. Hopefully, then I'll be able to lose all the weight afterward. This will be our last baby and I'll be 41 when s/he is born so I'll be more driven to lose the extra weight (hopefully). With breastfeeding and RPL issues, I didn't want to exercise too excessively while I was still hoping for another baby.

I have a prenatal yoga DVD that I don't like if anyone wants it. I'll post the full title tomorrow.

i played my wii walking game and burned around 350 calories. not sure how accurate that is but it motivates me. it is walking in place but feels like exercise. i like the game cuz it motivates me a lot. then we went hiking. not a long hike but it felt good. went hiking yesterday too. pregnancy makes it so if i sit anyway other than with perfect posture with both feet on the ground i get a lot of hip pain but walking even walking in place seems to put everything where it should be again and then not so much pain. feel a lot better physically and emotionally even if it isn't much exercise.

For those of you who use Wii games for exercise, what do you use? I have Wii fit with the board and I don't find it very challenging or even useful since each exercise comes in very short increments. It's annoying to have to restart it and then just do the same thing over and over.

To anyone thinking of investing in a Wii for the Wii fit, I don't recommend it unless you can get another exercise game. I am not impressed by Wii fit at all.

After those first 3 months of constant fatigue and nausea I'm back to my workout regime (modified). Since I'm not going to a gym this time what I'm doing is the following:

30 minutes on the elliptical followed by an hour of yoga. Next day is my weight workout plus a nice walk with the dogs. I alternate yoga, cardio and weights and take a one day break and hike on that day.

the wii fit plus lets you set up routines so that it goes smoother and faster. i don't like it though. my husband does the skateboard on it and he gets out of breath and he is in pretty good shape. all the wii games i know are pretty mild exercise wise but they are still better than not exercising and the mild exercise is good for me right now. the game i play is called walk it out and i can set it up to have faster paced songs so that i get more of a workout or slower songs but i don't do slower songs. the faster songs has me jogging and it is basically jogging in place for the entire game for as long as i want to play it. so i can jog in place for 2 hours which is pretty decent exercise. not the best but decent. i want to get some dancing games and am really curious about othe exercise games. i am really glad we got the wii but we don't get cable or anything the wii is our one video game system and we use it a lot and play games that are generally not violent and get us moving. husband and i grew up with video games so it is something we really like having now. anyhow i recommend wii fit plus for someone wanting milder exercise and i like walk it out a lot more i definitely recommend a balance board. i find the games more motivating than a video and when we have weeks of rain i am more likely to exercise indoors with these games. we don't have a gym near us and wouldn't use one if we did. this is cheaper than a gym membership and the points and trying to break my past record plays off on my competitive side but it is against my own scores and it works really well for me.
and wow that was probably terribly written.

Yeah, I know you can set up routines but it still ends up being the same short things over and over, KWIM? I've got the Fit Plus with the balance board and no one uses it, although the Wii is used for other games. I'm not a video game fan at all, though. I'd much rather follow a DVD or just walk on my treadmill.

I totally forgot to ask the MFM doc if I could exercise, darn it! I have to call my MW tomorrow so I'll ask her.

yeah wii fit is not fun for me either but my husband does the skateboard game all the way through all the levels and takes him quiet a while to finish and he gets a workout from it. less than real skateboarding but more than most of the wii fit plus games. he plays it daily so for us it has been well worth the money. also he has had problems with weak ankles for years and all the balance games have helped him tremendously! that is probably the best thing about the balance board for us is that my husband almost never gets sprained ankles anymore.

Oh, I haven't tried any of the "sport" games on that. I'm not really into that stuff. I wanted it for the walking, running, and weight lifting. I assume that it's so simple because it was originally developed for the elderly. shrug.gif I've been wondering about the other exercise programs you can get for it like the Jilian Micheals one and there is another that uses a camera so it can correct your form. I can't remember the name of that one. But now I'm pregnant so I can't use anything that strenuous right now. I bought a Denise Austin Fit Pregnancy DVD when I was pg with ds3 but I can't find it now. I liked that because it had modified routines for each trimester and a post-partum routine.

I didn't read through the whole thread, but I've been walking my driveway lately and it's really steep so my hamstrings and lower back have been really tight.  (or maybe it's toting around my 25lb toddler) Anyway, I've been doing the Yoga Mama on netflix but I need something else.  Anyone have any good suggestions?  I'm a total beginner.

Update on my exercise: I started the step class last week and I love it! My instructor is awesome though I find myself lost sometimes in the routine. I'm trying to go 2x a week (or alternating step/yoga). I already feel more energized and hope I can get a bit more toned over time.

sooooo? anyone else still working out???

 

I still try to get to the gym 4-5 days a week, I'm still able to do most of the stuff I was doing before, except for things that require being upside down or flat on my back (obviously), I've scaled down my weight-lifting a ton, I pretty much don't do anything over 45# now, but I always feel a ton better after a good day at the gym!

I took a lazy break from doing prenatal yoga on a DVD... then tried to resume yesterday and 20 minutes in I gave up. Mostly because the ground was too hard and I don't have a mat, but also because it's hard to quiet my brain. Oh well. I still walk a few miles every few days - I like that.

I'm hanging in there but pretty behind this week so far (DD#2 is ill). Generally I do I 2 mile walk twice a week, my prenatal yoga video twice a week and some light weight work with my arms.

 

I stopped step-aerobics in March, I was getting light-headed. irked.gif

 

I start water aerobics in June and cannot wait! I just got in the pool the 1st time this yr this past weekend and it felt really good. Can't count on my swim-suits fitting too well by the very end but we'll see.

oh yeah!  our pool just opened, but the weather isn't hot enough yet for me to brave the water, but as soon as it gets hot, I'm gonna be there on my off days

I'm still going although I have slowed down quite a bit. I do zumba 3x a week, and light weights 2x a week. This baby is sitting high and all in front, which makes bending over a unpleasant experience, not to mention a umbilical hernia that can cause a great deal of pain. I'm going to be 39 so I really want to keep up with things as much as possible, I've gained 18lbs so far and have 9 weeks to go.

i have been trying to exercise more. been going for walks and riding my bike in a trainer. i am having problems with a pinched nerve now that babies head is down and low down which effects how much i can walk but the bike in trainer seems to be ok.

Here is my routine (in theory): every Saturday I do 1-2 hours of prenatal yoga. Every Sunday I swim 8-14 Olympic-size laps. Every other day of the week I walk for a minimum of 1 mile, and sometimes up to 4 miles.

I have been skipping a lot of my walking lately though, and feeling guilty because come on, how lazy am I if I can't even *walk?* Especially since when I got pregnant I was in the middle of doing P90X and all that intense activity just pretty much ended when my morning sickness started.

I know the important thing is just to keep active, and the intensity level is secondary to that. So I guess I'm not doing so bad! I am definitely feeling a lot better physically in this pregnancy than my last (when I did a tiny bit of yoga and nothing else) so I'm glad I'm at least making some effort. Now the last 2 months may get challenging as I get bigger and the weather gets hotter.
