My dh and I cannot agree on a name for boy #4. I feel like we have inadvertently boxed ourselves in because of the names of our other 3. They all end with -an or -en. So, now I feel like we have to find a name with the same ending sound, -en, -an, -in, -on or -yn, so this kid isn't the odd one out. I also don't want a name that's too similar to the other boys' names. That's making it very difficult to find a name we like. The names I like are very similar to the names we've already used, which, of course, makes sense. That's what I like.

I tried going back through my baby name books without any exclusions to just pick any names I like. I ended back at the same place. All very similar names. We're stuck.

Our boys name we picked out is Owen.  Do you have an Owen already?  I also really like Ethan, but DH doesn't care for it.

We have no girls name yet.  We're completely lost on that one.

We didn't mean to have the same ending for all the names. I didn't even realize it until we had to pick a name for this baby.

We have a Ryan, Ethan and Kellen. My dh doesn't like O or Q names. After our last discussion, he said he'd look some more. I told him no more looking. We need settle on a short list and then see if we can agree on something from that.

I've narrowed my choices down to Brenden, Aiden and Aston. I'd go with Aston in a heartbeat except that my 20yo ds said if I do that everyone will call him Ass.

My dh won't agree to any of these and keeps coming back with new names. The latest are Gavin, Nolen and Logan. I don't like any of those. We discussed Dylan but my dh likes Dillon and I don't like that spelling. I think my dh is just being difficult. Even if he agrees to a name I suggest, he has to find a different spelling and won't let it go. He probably thinks I'm being difficult.

My latest idea is to try to get my dh to agree to a list of 3 names and let me choose after the baby is born. Maybe once I see him, I'll know which name fits him best. My dh won't be here for the birth so he won't be able to make the final decision with me. I don't know if he'll go for that.

MW: Oh darn, I was about to reply and say I love Aston as a name, but I didnt think about the potential unfortunate short form. I do also really like Aiden.

I personally think Logan is a fantastic name but there's just no way to use it these days without people thinking you named your child after Wolverine from XMen.

Have you considered Caiden? (or Cayden, Kaiden, Kayden, etc). Or Mason? Those are the two names on our short list that fit your criteria.

My DH will be here for the birth, but we've done just what you suggested - come up with a short list of names we like and we'll decide for sure which one we'll use once baby is here.

I know. When my ds first said that to me I thought he was being silly. Then I mentioned it to a few other people and they agreed with him. I think I'll have to take the word of a just barely not teen anymore guy about what other teen guys would do.

We don't want to do another 'K" sounding name since we have a Kellen. My dh is also very hung up on meaning. Since he's a US Marine, he wants a strong, warrior, hero type meaning. We did agree on Sloan as a middle name, which means warrior or something like that. I can't remember exactly now. I was hoping that would help him let go of the first name meaning but it hasn't.

I like Braeden, too, but my dh won't agree to that one either, I think mostly because of the meaning. I have teased him and told him since he won't be here I can name the baby whatever I want. I won't really do that (I don't think mischievous.gif) but I am getting a little tired of going around in circles with him.

We have way too many rules to pick a 4th boy name.

We're struggling with a name choice for our boy #4 too!  It's so frustrating and any time I ask DH about ti he makes some silly suggestion...I need him to get on board with really trying to find something... Our added issue is that it has to work in English and Norwegian...we don't even have a good middle name picked out!

Our current short list is:

Aleksander Johannes

Erik ???

Matthias Aleksander (no *th* sound just a *t* sound)

And I love the name Aksel but DH is not a fan.... :-(

any suggestions?? or preferences on these choices?

I'll suggest Karsten (or Carsten) for you even though you said you didn't want a *K* name. ;-) That's our boy #3 and we love it! Means annointed one.

I actually suggested Soren to my dh because I know someone with that name and had never heard it before. He is working with some Danish guys so asked about it and was told it's pronounced like Shorn, so that doesn't fit. I also asked about Aren. Again, it doesn't sound like it's spelled in English. It's pronounced Arn.

mumofmak ~ I like Aksel, too. Why do those darn dhes have to get in the way? winky.gif. The next one I like is Aleksander Johannes. I had to seriously threaten my dh that I was going to name the baby Brenden to finally get him to get serious about offering suggestions. It's not ok to shoot down everything I come up with if he's not going to provide some positive input. Of course, now I'm kicking myself for that. Just can't win.

We are having trouble picking boy names too. At this point I think we're just hoping for a girl, since we have a girl name picked out, lol.

No K names? Darn. I was going to suggest Corbin or Calvin.

What about Flynn? Darren? Devon?

Those are all possibles on our list.. along with Donovan, Gavin, Logan, Ethan, and Dylan.

We have a few others that don't end with en sound. *sigh* Maybe we'll know once the baby is here.

We still haven't picked a girl name we totally agree on. We have a boy name, although we're not 100% on the middle name (I am, but DH would like something different). So, the baby will probably be a girl ;)

We still haven't decided on a name either.  It's really super frustrating!  With DS1 we had the name literally moments after finding out he was a boy (and mutually agreed to the name within 24 hours of finding out).  This time we are 100% stumped.  I think with DS1 we set the bar too high, we always get compliments on his name, how it's cool/unique/rock star whatever it is, so we can't just name DS2 whatever - it needs to be cool too.  There's too much pressure!  ROTFLMAO.gif

Good luck to you on your name search!

I'm refusing to think about it until I have baby in hand. :/  DH and I have a number of options, none of them perfect. But I'm as tired of coming up with reasons why I SHOULDN'T name my baby something as I am with finding reasons we should.  I'll let her (it had better be a her or it's gonna be a whole different set of name problems) present herself - maybe I'll be inspired.

I could go for waiting until baby is born more if my dh were going to be here. Since he won't, I feel more pressure to decide beforehand.

We've had a girl name picked out since we were TTC what turned out to be ds2. We'll never get to use it. greensad.gif

I also like:

Ronan
Rowan (although, I guess that's more popular for a girl)
Keiran
Keenan
Kian ~ I'm pretty sure my dh would agree to this one right away because he's the one who suggested it first.
Ian ~ too close to Ethan, right? I can see myself constantly getting their names mixed up. I do that already. lol.gif

I've lost my original lists. My 7yo ds took my notepad to take notes for some detective game he was playing.

I really like Matthias and none of my American friends or family have trouble pronouncing it. In order to escape the "th" problem (my native language is German and there it is a pure "t" as well), we have picked Matteo, called Teo so it is clear that there is no "th" sound in it as there would be with Theo.

I know Matthias in all age groups and all of them are nice men or cool boys.

I can just suggest some more Nordic names popular here:

Lorenz or Laurenz

Leon

Magnus

Niko

We are pretty decided on Julian Markus for this baby now.

If your other two children have -an names, I say branch out now. Then if you have more, you won't feel even more pressure to keep going with that and get stuck like we are.

HUGS to you Mamas without names.

We have had a name chosen for 7 YEARS!  And the moment I became pregnant...I knew that I wanted to change it.  Fortunately, my husband was VERY supportive.

And now, instead of honoring ONE Grandfather, we are honoring one Grandfather and one Great-Grandfather. 2 out of 3 families (my parent's are divorced) are happy!

Hehe. That happens, doesn't it? When I got pg with this one, I wanted to change our girl name pick that we've had picked since 2001, so 10+ years. My dh grumbled about that. He doesn't like change. He thinks once we decide on something we have to stick with that forever whether it works or not. He says I drive him crazy changing things on him all the time. I'm like, if you try something and it doesn't work, try something else.

I have found my little notebook with all my original name picks in it. DS2 had taken it to a friend's house and left it but he got it back for me. I'm going to go back through that and see if I can consolidate everything.

MarineWife,

Your post made me LOL!

From the moment we married, my husband wanted to name our first boy "David Solomon" (my husband's father).  And we agreed we would call him "Saul"...as "David" is NOT a favorite name of mine.

This went on for 7 years...and then when I became pregnant...the MOMENT I saw 2 pink lines...well, at first, I almost fell over.  Second, I knew the baby is a boy.  So, I started calling him "Eddie" (my mother's father).

The first time my husband heard it...he raised his eyebrows...and I said, "Edward Solomon?"  He agreed...and now likes the name!  He's also happy that we've still honored his father and been able to honor my grandfather.

That's great, Mrs. B.

The other thing kind of funny in my situation is that, when we first started talking names my dh didn't think about meaning at all. I'm the one who brought up that I wanted the name to mean something. For example, I like the sound of Tyler and Taylor but Taylor, at least, means a tailor. That doesn't have any meaning to me whatsoever so I don't really want to use that name. My dh thought that was silly at the time but went along with me. Now he's so hung up on the name meaning something very strong and manly or warrior-like that he's shooting down almost all the names I come up with.

I thought I could get around that by picking the middle name Sloan, which means warrior. That should give us more leeway with the meaning of the first name. So far, no go. DH is still hung up on this very narrow category. eyesroll.gif

We have a solid boy name but the girl name.. meh. We are trying to find names that are easily pronounceable in both English & Spanish. I feel like this is gonna be a boy so I have been personally content with not thinking too hard on girl names... though if it's a girl I'm gonna be caught off guard!

As for the OP's names, I just wanted to add I went to school with 2 brothers named Galen and Levon... I liked those names :)

I LOVE the name Galen! I brought that up several months ago as a potential name in case our baby is a boy, but DH shot it down because it has the phoneme "gay" in it. But I think it is a strong-sounding, not too common name. And of course being named after a famous scientist/anatomist is cool to me.

We have narrowed it down to 2 boy names that both of us like equally well, so I don't know how we will decide on that if it's a boy. Maybe the baby will just look like one or the other of the names. :) We have 3 potential girl names that we both like, one if which DH is set on, but I'm not sure if that's my favorite of the three. I have several other girl names that I like that DH doesn't. And I'm still sad that we have eliminated my favorite girl name that I had decided on years ago because it is too popular now. I think we are going to have a really hard time deciding if it's a girl. I feel a little bit like I should give in to DH's favorite girl name because if it is a girl, her middle name is going to be my mom's name.

I had to give up my fave girl name a long time ago. My dh absolutely hated it.

We are now discussing Dylan. My dh likes it. I think it's ok but I'm not sure I love it. I don't want to settle. I also don't like it with the middle name we had settled on, Dylan Sloan. I don't have the energy to go searching for another middle name.

If your other two children have -an names, I say branch out now. Then if you have more, you won't feel even more pressure to keep going with that and get stuck like we are.

With #2, we didnt really plan to have coordinating names. But, we ended up with a Brody and a Bella....Then an OOOOOOPSwegetpreggowithanIUD#3 comes along...and we didnt want to do all Bs...so we changed that, cause we were running into "brenda, billy, boris" types and those weren't "us"... so we picked Josephine. Then we got pregnant again,...and we knew we couldnt have 2 B names and 2 randoms, so we chose another J name. Jagger. :)    Annnnd then .... #5 is coming. So as we scheduled DHs vasectomy, we knew we wouldnt have a #6 to match names up with #5, and we had to chose either B or J names... and we chose Jace. :)2

You can still change your naming game, create a whole new naming game.... :)
