Filtered Castor Oil...anyone seen such a thing? - Mothering Forums

I vaguely recall seeing an ad somewhere for filtered castor oil that isn't supposed to taste as bad?  My doula mentioned alternate ways of me taking it so I might consider it if I get to 41 wks...I don't want another C/S!

 

Has anyone seen this stuff?  Thanks!

Castor oil doesn't have a flavor really.  It is the consistency that is nasty.  I added it to chocolate ice cream and a splash of milk to make a shake both times I tried it.  It made it taste like chocolate flavored lipstick.  Once I got over the initial funkiness, it was pretty easy.  A lot of people just do a shot of it and a shot of oj or soda as a chaser.  Others mix it with oj or grapefruit juice and drink it that way.

I remember castor oil tasting awful...there was no disguising the taste.  I thought I saw an ad (maybe in the last paper issue of Mothering) that mentioned a castor oil that was filtered to somehow not taste so disgusting.  I just can't find that issue of Mothering or remember where I otherwise might have seen the ad.  My doula & I are going to come up with an method that is less disgusting for me...I couldn't even get the 2nd dose down last time & threw up the 1st.

I am considering doing castor oil before long. I have diabetes and am afraid to go after 40 weeks as my chances of still birth increase a lot after 40 weeks. How do u take it to induce labor?

Make a shake...2 cups ice cream, 2 oz castor oil and one egg. Blend together and thin with milk. Drink it all within 30 minutes. The reason this works is the egg binds the castor oil with the fat in the ice cream and it holds it in your stomach and works with your body's own hormones. If you just drink the castor oil straight or put in juice, it will cause horrible abdominal cramping and diarrhea. This works most of the time if you are dilated to at least 2cm and 50% effaced.
