Hi everyone,

A friend of mine told me about this site to look for advice to my query. I have no idea where to post my question because I have no idea how to surf around on one of these chat pages. So, I'm sure someone will have some advice there too.

My query:

I have an 8 month old little girl who I'm totally in love with. I started to introduce solids at around 6 months and she wasn't interested then and still isn't interested. I fear I am programming her with "hating food" from a very young age. I have read Super Baby Food and think it's great but no where in there does it tell you what to do if your baby just isn't interested. Everyday I try to feed her something. I have tried absolutely everything: warm food, cold food, room temperature food, mushy food, food she can hold, homemade food, storebought food, food mixed with breast milk, food mixed with boiled water, food plain, food with cinnamon, food at all different times of the day, before I breastfeed, after I breastfeed, somewhere in the middle of when I breastfeed. In the kitchen, in the highchair, in the livingroom on the floor, in her little bouncy chair, in the swing, in silence, with music playing. Each time I have a happy smiley face and encourage her with a "good" whenever the spoon even remotely enters her mouth. I'll eat infront of her too. She shows interest and so I'll give her what I'm eating (avacado, banana, apples etc). She'll take it but then only plays with it, loses interest and drops it on the floor. It doesn't even go to her mouth. Phew. Sooooo, my doctor told me I should start giving her kindervitals (vitamins for kids) which has natural ingredients where she will receive Iron. Sounds great to me but I have to try to get 5 mls of the stuff into her everyday. Brutal. I literally have to hold her arms and force it into her mouth.......which I'm totally against!!! But I'm worried about her Iron intake or lack there of.
She's a healthy weight for her size, about 20 lbs. She's got beautiful roly poly legs and arms (from my breastmilk) and she's happy. Should I skip the Iron altogether and just keep trying maybe only a couple of times a week to introduce her to food. I just need to know if there is anyone else out there who has a little one who didn't start eating solids right away and what they did. HELP.
Thank you so much and I hope to hear from someone soon.

Hi and to MDC.

This is not really a good place to put your query, this is just a thread I started for my toddler to play with the smilies. Very few people will see your question here. You will get lots of help if you post your question as a new thread in one of these sections Breastfeeding, Life With a Babe, or Nutrition.

My advice is that it sounds like she isn't really ready for solids so don't push. She doesn't need iron suplaments unless her blood has been tested and she is low. Read the book My Child Won't Eat!
