it was the hardest decision i've ever had to be a part of. we called the vet and arranged for them to come out to the car and administer the stuff to do it, both dh and i were there holding and petting him as he passed.

he was with us for 10 years. he was our first "baby" in fact. buster was his name. he hasn't been eating well the past few days, hasnt been walking well either. last night at 6 pm he had a very long seizure. dh had to go to inservice, and while he was gone he had 2 more small ones. he also peed in the house 3 times yesterday. he has never peed in the house. after his first seizure he seemed confused. throughout the course of the night he went back and forth between seizing and being in an unconscious kind of state. i called the vet this morning and made arrangements. dh took ds to one of the only people not related i would take either of my kids to. he came back and picked up dd, me and buster. we got to the vet's office, dh went in to let them know we were there, he came back out with the vet and a tech to the car and administer the stuff to do it, so that we could be with him when he took his last breath. our appointment time was 11 am. by 11:20 we were on the way to my mother's house to go bury him next to the other pooch that we had, she died in 2003. i will miss him terribly. so will dh and ds, i dont think dd is quite old enough to get it. she keeps looking for him. ds has asked a few questions, and we are answering as honestly as possible, and reminding him that bussie doesnt hurt anymore.

we are going to pick out a tree to plant up at my mom's place soon.

My condolences on your family's loss. Your fur-friend has "eyebrows" like my Manitou who was a Malamute/wolf mix, whom we rescued as an adult animal, and with whom we had several wonderful years.

(Made me well up with tears to look at your pics...that's a very sweet fellow with whom your family got to share life and home.)

Manitou had seizures too...and the peeing...he had had an inoperable tumor come to find out. He had some good time too, after he was diagnosed, but of course...in the end we did the loving and compassionate thing just as you did.

We too, had the vet come out to the car...and you know the rest. I truly and deeply feel for you and your family.

I miss my "Mannie" very much...he was so beautiful and very loving.

I have two other dogs. I love them up good every day, knowing that all living beings get old and infirm and eventually die. Life is short and using the time we have on the planet to give LOVE seems like one of the best ways to spend our time.

Many hugs to your and yours...Joyce in the mts.

thanks joyce. this is what we are trying to do as well. the cat that adopted us about a month ago is gettting tons of love, and beacuse ds was so heartbroken, we are now sharing our home with a yellow lab mix that needed more attention than what her previous owner was able to provide for her.
