My son is going to start dance this fall. The uniform requirement calls for black jazz shoes for the jazz class.

He has an XW foot about youth 1. I'm wondering if the girl's wide sizes -- should I find any in black -- will even cut it since isn't a girl's wide like a boy's regular? The men's sizes seem to have wide, but don't start until about size 6.

Any suggestions?

Did you talk to the dance studio? I'm sure they've encountered this before and can provide some guidance. They may even have dance shoes your son can try on.

I'm not sure exactly what type of shoe he needs, but this comes in child wide widths.

My DS1 has wide feet and for his class (at 4.5) they just went up to the next size and I made sure to send really thin dress socks. It's the same with ice skates--no widths for toddler sizes, or at least not w/o specially ordering and paying $$$, and what's the point when they outgrow them in 6 mo anyway.
