Not sure if it fits the "classic" requirement but there is an Australian series about a girl with two mothers that an advanced 5. Year old could probably read by Brenna and Vicki Harding. We have "Going to Fair Day" and "My House" but there are more. Sorry I can't work out how to copy a link on the iPad.
