WOW....7PM to 8 AM ???? NICE! biggrinbounce.gif my 13 month old goes down between 6 and 7 PM every night ...but is up faithfully between 5 and 5:30 AM every morning!
My older two - well theyre teenagers now so they sleep in....but they used to sleep from about 8 PM to 8AM every day. Waking up at 8AM is wonderful...especially after sleeping more than 12 hours!
it may be too early for MIL, but kids seem to fall into natural rhythms with these things....

That sounds like my kids! They are NOT sleepers! Even my 3 yr old, while she goes to bed at 8:30, does not go to sleep until 10! And my 10 yr old would stay up all night reading in bed if we let her!

Your kids sleep from 7 pm to 8 am?!!! That's 13 hours. I don't think either of my children have EVER slept 13 hours, even with naps. (Ok, maybe as infants under 4 months, but once they hit 6 months, nope.)

My kids are older:
Ds sleeps from 10 pm til 7:00.
Dd SHOULD sleep from 8:30 pm till 7:15. We're lucky if we get her to do 9:30 to 7:15. And often it's 10:30 pm to 7:25. She has to get up at 7:25 for school. She should get up at 7:15.

Which reminds me, it's 9:25. Dd is still up. I need to go give dd her daily dose of melatonin.

In bed at 7- lights out at 7:30 : sleep until about 6:45. Mine are just shy of age 6.

8 am in NOT early at all! If/when your kiddos are school age and you attend a preschool/public/co=op, it is likely you will have to be out the door around that time unless you do PM program.

Kids rhythms are usually naturally pretty early (with a few exceptions of course).

I've never had a kid sleep that much, ever!

DD1 is 8, we have lights out between 8-8:30pm, aiming to have her out by 9pm. It doesn't always work, she has a hard time going to sleep sometimes. She is up by 6:30am, once in a while she will sleep in till 7 on the dot.

DD2 will be 5 this month. Lights out by 7:30, asleep before 8. She wakes up anywhere between 6-7am, she is usually up by 6:30 though.

DS1 is two and all over the place. He doesn't nap anymore. Ideally we'd like him to be asleep before 8 since he doesn't nap. He doesn't always think so. We can take him to bed where he will just sit in bed with us awake for hours. He falls asleep anywhere from 7:30 (rare!) to 9:30pm, is awake between 7-8.

There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way.

13 hours of sleep seems like the most anyone could hope for.  It sounds great to me.  My 6 yo's have always been early risers and it was 7pm to 5:30 am until about a year ago when they started sleeping all the way to 6/6:30, but bedtime has shifted to 7:30, so really no more sleep.

My 6 year old DD goes to bed at 8 and wakes up somewhere around 7:30. I usually have 14 month old DS asleep by 8:30, and he wakes up within minutes of DD coming out because she can't help herself but to wake him. On the rare occasion that she leaves him alone, he'll sleep until 8:30-9.

8am would be awesome!!! That's a pretty big sleep really! 6yo DS goes to bed around 6.30pm and wakes around about 6am or so. I would probably cry with happiness if my kids slept in until 8am! LOL

It's complicated.

Methinks your parents need to go to bed earlier if they think 8 am is 'too early'. (I'm a night owl. My perfect wake up time is 9 am. Ain't happening with kids in the house.)

My 6 y/o and 2 y/o go to bed at 8 and wake up at 7 am. My 2 y/o also takes a 2-3 h nap.

8 am is not early at all, especially with 6:30pm bedtime.

My 2 1/2 year old son is in bed by 8:30 and sleeps until 8:00-ish. Sometimes as late as 8:30, which is bliss!

Edited to add: I should say that until he was twenty months old he woke and nursed almost hourly. So the last year has been heaven.

My 15 month old goes to bed at 6:30-7 and wakes up anywhere between 5:30am and 6:15

My 4 year old normally goes to bed around 8:30-8:45 because she has "daddy-time" while I put DS to bed and relax. She wakes up around 7:45-8:15

DS is almost 8 and in second grade and we live a 5 min walk to school. So he goes to bed between 8:30 - 9:00 and gets up about 7:45 for school at 8:30.

8 yo dd: bedtime 9ish, and wakes around 7am... often times earlier (doesn't seem to require as much sleep).

5 yo dd: bedtime around 8pm and wakes around 7:30am. but her schedule can vary depending on if it's a weekend or weekday (school). she requires more sleep than the 8 yo and will sleep in on weekends and could go to bed earlier on weeknights if we didn't have activities so late in the evening.

If any of my kids sleep past 7:15am, it usually means they are sick.

DD, 6 and ds1, 4, go to bed at 8.  Dd is usually asleep by 8:15.  Ds1 will either be asleep by 8:10, or he can still be awake at 10.  He's always been a crappy sleeper.

Ds2, 19 months, is usually asleep by 9, but sometimes it's later.

Ds2 wakes up when dh's alarm goes off, so either 6:10 or 6:30.  Dd and Ds1 almost always wake up within 10 minutes of dh turning on the kitchen light (which doesn't shine in their rooms at all.)

I want to sleep until 8 a.m. Just once a week ... pleeease ... maybe sundays ...?

Kids sleep from 8.00/8.30 until 6.30/7.00, on a very lucky day they might make it until 7.30...

nice, nothing wrong with that!

DSD's bed time is 8, but she will often be up till 9 due to our dinners being late. she wakes up 7 - 7:30. i like the mornings she is here, even though i tend to sleep late. being woken up, no matter the time, with kid snuggles is the best.

eta: i did manage to get an extra half hour (most nights) by putting a black fleece blanket over her window ;)

In bed at 8. They fall asleep in between 8:15 and 9. (the 4 y.o. has no nap, she falls asleep earlier. 2 y.o. naps, so she takes longer to fall asleep...) School wake-up: 6:20. Natural wake-up when no school: in between 7 and 7:30.

I wish my kids would sleep 13 hours just once a month! It would be great :)

Usually my older two(4 1/2 and almost 3) go to sleep around 700-800 pm (depending on how many times I have to put them down) and they get up between 530-600am. Even if they go to bed late they still wake up at 6am at the latest. One night we stayed out late, didn't get to bed until after 1am and they were up at 6am.. Neither takes a nap either.

The baby goes to sleep anywhere between 630-8pm (depending on whether he took an early or late nap) and then he is up between 6am-730 am depending on when he goes to sleep. He takes 1 30-60 minute nap during the day.

My son (5 next month) goes to bed between 10-12 and awakens between 8-9a.  We homeschool so waking early is not an issue.   If my son went to bed that early he would never have dinner as we don't have dinner until 6-730ish.  He always was a night owl (he has always been on our schedule).  Sometimes he will nap if we drive around early evening.

Your MIL must not have raised kids if she thinks that 8 am is too early to get up.  My dd is in school now and her bus comes at 8:15.  We get up between 7 and 7:30.  Even Nursery School starts at 9 so 8 would be the very latest.  People who work generally have to get up before 8 and so do their kids.   It sounds like you are blessed with a child who sleeps for so long!    My 6 yo sleep 10-10.5 hours a night and my 3 year old just a little more than that with no nap - 11.5 hours if I'm lucky and have a nice quiet early bedtime which is rare.  We get up between 7 and 7:30 every day including weekends.   Lights out for the little one 7:30-8-asleep 7:45-8:15.   Older one falls asleep by 9.

Our 3 and 5 year old are in bed by 7:30, but I usually have to go in and tell them to stop talking at least once or twice. They probably fall asleep closer to 8ish.  They are up by about 6:30-7 every morning.

Our 9 year old is a night owl and stays up till about 9:30-10.  He is up by about 8:30-9.
