So my son is singing Jolly Old St Nicholaus for his school Christmas Concert and I have to say I always thought it was a rather sweet song...and then I read the lyrics...

Jolly old Saint Nicholas lean your ear this way
Don't you tell a single soul what I'm going to say
Christmas Eve is coming soon now you dear old man
Whisper what you'll bring to me tell me if you can

...

Johnny wants a pair of skates Susie wants a dolly
Nelly wants a storybook she thinks dolls are folly
As for me my little brain isn't very bright
Choose for me old Santa Claus what you think is right

What the???

How come I never saw that...and then there is the Britsh National anthem which we sing at our school...my son is half scottish and lines like:

Lord grant that Marshall Wade

May by thy mighty aid

Victory bring.

May he sedition hush,

And like a torrent rush,

Rebllious Scots to crush,

God save the queen!

What the heck is that?

I can't believe I never realized these offensive little nuggets before...

What else have I been missing?  I thought it might be fun to post all the lyrics we never really heard before and shock the heck out of us now.

What have you got?

Rebekah - mom to Ben 03/05 and Emily 01/10, a peace educator, and a veg*n and wife to Jamie.
