I find the whole sleep thing difficult. But is occurs to me that I don't really know what other kids do. I only remember that No Cry Sleep Solution says kids this age need 12-13 hours sleep. What is/was your 3 1/2 year olds bedtime and naptime (if any) time. I am interested in times rather than routine per se.
Thanks a lot!
Well, I'm a mom of two kids--not even biologically related to one another at all (one is adopted)--who don't sleep well. And none of the books have worked.
My 3-1/2yo (will be 4 in a few weeks) pretty much sleeps 10-12 hours/day depending on the day and usually closer to the 10 hour amount. She'll nap during the day sometimes (I can increase the frequency of this if I lay down WITH her) but then it pushes back her bedtime without pushing out her wake-up time. And the nap is generally mid-day (1pm-ish) although in the last week or two she's pushed it back earlier in the day (we're coming off a month of traveling around so she may just be out of sorts).
For the most, she sleeps 8:30pm-7 or 8am. If she has a nap, it's usually an hour (but sometimes two!) and then bedtime can be as late as 9:30/10pm without a change in wake-up time. I do not EVER let her nap at 4 or 5pm. Yowza.
ETA: mine still wakes at night. At least once. But she is also still taking in quite a few of her calories via hypoallergenic formula due to swallowing issues with solid food and for a long time, this was a caloric need. However, at this point, I honestly think the waking is a habit that we're working on.

My daughter will be 4 on 12/1. She either naps 1-2 hours and stays up until 9 or 10 and then I have to drag her out of bed at 7 to start our day, or she sleeps from about 7pm-7am. So either way she falls right around 12 hours in 24 hours. We are in transition right now with dropping naps.
Mine sleeps from 9 to 7 am and then usually sleeps for another hour or so in the late afternoon. HIs natural sleep schedule would be a lot later -- like 11 pm to 10 am and probably no nap.

Bedtime between 730 and 830, wake up between 6:45 and 8. No naps. It's been this way for almost two years.... I've tried all sorts of things to get her to get more sleep, but this is about it. Most nights I'd say she averages about 10, 10.5 hours. She doesn't really melt down more than I think is normal, so I think she is getting enough sleep. Most nights, she asks to be put to bed ("It's dark, I'm tired, can I go to sleep now?"), and she wakes up on her own, happy as a beam of sunshine.

My 3 year old hasn't napped for about 6 months. She goes to sleep at about 7:30 pm and wakes between 6-6:30 a.m. She goes to sleep in her bed and very occasionally sleeps through the night. Usually she wakes at 12/1 am and grabs an assortment of stuff, walks down the hallway, and climbs into our bed. If nothing goes wrong, 90% she is back asleep within five minutes for the rest of the night. if DH is still up he puts her back to sleep and then she wakes again at 3 and climbs in with us.
Our 5 year old is on the same schedule.
My son falls asleep around 8-830 and wakes up at 730, no naps. It took him FOREVER to sleep through the night (3 years!). Now, he does pretty well. My daughter falls asleep around 730 and wakes at 730, no naps. She needs way more sleep than our son, even though she's older.

This is the same with DS on weekends, when he's home with us and does not nap.
At preschool this year, he's napping again (he had sort of dropped them at the end of last year), and when he does, he goes to the nap room around 12:30 and they wake him up around 2, though there is no guarantee that he falls asleep right away, so not sure how long he naps on those days but no longer than an hour and half clearly. On days he has napped, he is likely to not fall asleep until 9:30 or 10.
my DD is up until 1030 11 pm sometimes 1130pm. she usually wakes up between 8-9 am. I would love to have her sleep earlier and hoping the earlier sunset time helps us out with that. She does not usually nap. She does say that she is tired when she wakes up but doesn t go back to sleep.

My dd is not quite 3 1`/2. She goes to bed around 8 and gets up around 630, naps about an hour and a half as well. If she skips the nap, she can fall asleep around 630 and gets up at the usual time.

My ds2 goes to bed between 7:45 and 8:30 and gets up between 7 and 8 (he would probably sleep later if we didn't have to be out the door by 7:45ish). He also naps for 2ish hours at daycare each day. On the weekends he typically doesn't want to nap, and he's a beast by 4pm.

My 3yo goes down around 730pm and is up between 5-530am. She hasn't napped since around 2 1/2.
ODS is in K this year so we are much more careful about bedtime, in a good way. DD is almost 3 1/2 and hasn't regularly napped in over a year. She usually is asleep by 7:30-8 pm and is up at 6:-6:30 a.m. Once a week or so she'll add an hour or two to her sleep. She doesn't SSN. She will wake up once and walk down the hall and crawl into bed with me and go back to sleep within a few minutes.
