How old was your child when you read him/her Charlotte's Web? In retrospect, how do feel about the decision?

DD is 5 and we started it this week so we are about 5 chapters in.  She's loving it so far.  Will get back to you when we finish it.

As I recall, DD was 3, probably close to 4.  She loved it, but she sobbed about the ending.  (I hadn't warned her ahead of time that it would be sad.)  Seeing that she could be that sad about a book was kind of cool in a way, because it showed what a big kid she was getting to be. She wasn't deeply traumatized and didn't seem sorry that I had read her the book, and I wasn't sorry that I had.  Afterwards, I remember her pretending to be Charlotte dying.

I didn't read it to DD but she had it read to her in an after school program in Kindergarten and hated it. She has never been fond of books with pointless death. I don't think she was harmed or helped by reading it.

I remember vividly because it was DC's first chapter book. It was when she was in pre-K so she was about 5. It sparked her imagination like nothing I've seen. Def. feel good about the decision.

Just wanted to update since we finished it.  It was great!  It turned out that MIL had already watched the movie with her.  She keeps asking if we can read it again.
