I adored Shrinky Dinks as a kid, and now my DD does, too. But tonight DP smelled the smell of a Shrinky Dink in the oven and said, "How could that be safe? Melting plastic that creates fumes?"

We've been Googling like crazy and coming up mostly empty-handed. The plastics industry says they're safe, but I would like another source.

I have learned that the plastic used to make Shrinky Dinks is recyclable #6, polystyrene, in case that's useful!

I would love to be convinced that they are safe, but I agree he has reason to be skeptical!

I also never thought of this. I don't know that they are safe buy we did it so rarely with dd that we saw no bad effects whether they are or not.
