How many hours between your little one's eating dinner and then eating breakfast?
Ours is currently eating dinner very early 4.45pm (6.15pm bedtime) - Awake at 5.15 am (gah) then breakfast at 6.30-7am (Call it 6.45am). That's nearly 14 hours (I think - doing the maths quickly).
We're having some rough mornings with her, and I'm wondering if she's waking up starving. We offer her food (banana or whatever) on first waking, but she doesn't want to eat it seems.
have you tried a smoothie of sorts before she's out of bed? I've recently given my 6 yr old one before she gets up to get ready for school b/c she was such a bear (and she eats about 6PM and wakes about 7A, so not as long)
Smoothie idea lasted one morning - she doesn't want smoothies anymore.
She's a fussy critter.
I think (unfortunately) we are concluding it is a combo of sometimes not getting enough sleep - but also, the mornings she is all happy and chatty in bed, then a monster as soon as we get her up....we think it's somewhat about control. She burns around yelling if things are different from when she went to bed, things have to be just so before she has her milk...it's like she can't stand getting up because she's suddenly not in control of anything or something (though she usually is).
Sleep is still giving us grief. We're having to put her to bed at 6pm (we are in summer months here - so it's light until 9pm, then light again in the morning at 5-ish) because she can't seem to sleep past 5am. We have good curtains, but can't shut her door (there is a huge window outside her door in the hallway) or she goes nuts.
I thought maybe she was starving hungry - but she rejects all food until breakfast (which we are trying to do a little earlier) - so it seems something else is going with her, as above.
Why so grumpy in the a.m. though - gah...it's awful.
On the sleep front - do you think she might nap if you seriously undercut her night sleep? I know your naps have phased out, but with the summer light issues it seems so practical to just have her sleep a 9 hour night and then try for a siesta. Never would have worked for my DD, but sounds nice in theory?

She continues to kill us though. This morning was 4.45am (didn't get her out of bed for an hour though....couldn't face it).
Though I still haven't figured out if 3+ year olds are like smaller kids - i.e. do they sleep better/longer if they go to bed earlier....or just, no? I keep trying as early as possible...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Mostly it doesn't.
Sounds pretty typical. My 3.5 year old son has this schedule:
Quiet Time (sleeps 1 out of every 3 days): 11:30am to 2pm
Dinner: 4:30-5:00 (asks for food at 3:30, but if we let him snack he will skip dinner entirely)
His eating has become erratic, sometimes he will want a snack at 10am but then skip lunch, one day he refused breakfast AND lunch and had no snacks--just wanted to play.
Their brains and bodies are busy at this age and they are too distracted to eat properly.
