Hi moms,  we recently moved to the country to a house with well water from a suburban house with city water.  Both the pediatrician and dentist have recommended starting our preschool boys on daily fluoride tablets....thoughts?  Thanks!

I grew up on well water, not keen on fluoride supplements. But yes to brushing with fluoride!

My dad gave me daily fluoride pills growing up. I have fluoridosis on my teeth and I have brittle bones. I had headaches daily for a stretch when I was in elementary school.

There is a meta-analysis that shows strong evidence that children with fluoride in their water suffer from lower IQs.

Wouldn't do it.

Here is the study from Harvard on fluoride IQ:

“Fluoride seems to fit in with lead, mercury, and other poisons that cause chemical brain drain,” Grandjean says. “The effect of each toxicant may seem small, but the combined damage on a population scale can be serious, especially because the brain power of the next generation is crucial to all of us.”

Medical professionals don't seem to have caught up to all the science out there on the dangers of fluoride.

I wouldn't do it either, I try my very best to limit the amount of fluoride we ingest, not easy, but at least I can control our drinking and cooking water. You are lucky to have unfluoridated water, most in the US are not so lucky.

thank you so much for all the info and links...and thanks for the reminder to be grateful for our well water, something I took for granted.  Take care (especially in the snow if your an east coast mama!).
