Okay, for those of you who have read my tearful threads over horrible mothering days with 4 small kids, here is a cheery one. As you all may know by now, dh is away for an extended trip. this morning I needed to take dd1 to the city (about 45 min away) to the doctor, where we discovered that she has strep throat. Since we were all there anyway, I got brave and decided stay in the city to do a little walking around and shopping (BTW, DD had no symptoms and was feeling fine). The three older ones were walking, the baby in a sling. We stopped at an upscale food court for lunch. We went to the store for fall shoes (for all three, 2 pair each!). We walked to the ice cream store and then drove back to the clothing store to pick up the shoes (I couldn't carry the bags back to the car parked six blocks away). We drove home and went to the pharmacy to get dd1 her medicine. We came home, did puzzles and art projects. Had dinner. I nursed the baby to sleep while the other three watched a PBS show and got in their PJ's. We washed, brushed teeth, talked to DH on the phone in Cal, started a sewing project to be finished tomorrow, went upstairs using "bedtime voices", snuggled and went to sleep. Aside from a few whines about how far away the car was and when we could start our sewing project, there were no tantrums, few fights, and a peaceful bedtime. I got loads of compliments on the kids in the city, too. What a day! I am on top of the world! Now, if only I could figure out how to do it all again tomorrow!

Wow, you did that with FOUR children??!!

I'm struggling after two weeks now that I have two children. Just getting two of them fed and in the car would have taken me the entire day.

I'm in awe......
