Agh... my 3yo DS is now referring to us most of the time as "Mom" and "Dad". I dunno if I like this!!! He's so cute when he says mommy and daddy.

My children go back and forth. I've always hated "mommy" for myself. I'm strictly a "mama" type. (please believe me when I say I'm never bothered by what other families for themselves but for some reason I just never liked being called "mommy")

My 3yo DS has started calling me "mom" in the last couple of weeks...I don't think I like it either! I asked DH where did he get that? I miss my boy calling me mama!

My son is starting this, too, and I think it's really cute. He sounds (and is starting to look) like a little boy, not my little baby anymore. My poor DH, though - my son occasionally refers to him by his first name (especially if he is having trouble getting his attention with "Dad"). It doesn't help that my DH shares a name with a Wiggle.

My almost 3 yr. old uses "mommy" the most, but sometimes uses "mom" or "mama". He calls his father "papa" and never anything else, although he knows the word dad.

We're still Mommy and Daddy to 4 yo DS. In fact, he corrects anyone if they refer to us as his Mom and Dad: "NO! Mommy and Daddy!"

I've never liked being called "Mommy." (digging deep I think its because thats what I called MY mom, and she wasn't much of one) Around here, I'm "Mama" and only Mama. My 2 year old has been running around calling me by my first name, Mom, Mommmyyyyyyy (which really grates on my nerves), and the same thing with Dad. Ultimatly though when she wants my attention, she calls for Mama.

My 7 year old still calls me Mama, and calls her step mother "mommy" (I told her she was more than welcome to have that name. )

I always referred to myself as "mama" to my kids, a few months ago they all 3 rebelled (my then 3 year old and my 2 not yet 2 year olds) and switched to "Mommy" and I found I was fighting a losing battle.
Then a couple of months later DS1 started using "mom" and "dad" more than Mommy and Daddy. It did seem wierd. Especially when he would just casually say something like "fanks Mom" and he just sounded so BIG.

My son started out calling me "Mom" probably because that's what I call my mother (we spend a lot of time with my family). Now he flips back and for between "Mom" and "Mommy."

When my kids call me "Mom," (which is rare), I simply respond, "I like to be called Momma."

I figure, I should be called what I like! I don't call my kids things they don't like, they shouldn't do it to me.

Namaste!

i still call my parents mama and daddy when talking to thm. when talking about them i call them my mom and my dad unlees i'm talking about them to other family. dd calls me mama.

i always have called my step-mother by her first name and refer to her in conversation as my dad's wife.

i think dd will end up calling her step father daddy but she has called him "mr kurt" for as long as she has known him. she saysshe'll callm him daddy when we get married.

she's 6.

oh.. you mommas are so lucky ds2 who is 27 months has ALWAYS called us mom and dad always! (he is a very late talker but great with signing) It was only yesterday that he said his first 2 syllable word which was bo bo which is what I guess he named the snowman in his fav. book.
Maybe he gets this from ds1 who calls us mom and dad now I do miss the days of being a momma. ds1 only calls me that if he's sick, super sad, or falling asleep.
I still refer to my self as momma though....and I still call my momma...momma

This is so interesting to see the titles kidlets call their parents

I call my mom "Ma" and have for almost my entire adult life (before that she was mom). I don't say it like the "country" variant of Ma... I almost say it like the "New York" variant of Ma. Hard to explain. She even signs cards and stuff "--MA!".

DS is still on his Mom kick, but calls me Mommy when he is sad/upset/tired.

I get a kick out of his "Dad". He says it with the weirdest accent. He must have gotten it from a show or something... it's two syllables almost. Like "Day-ad!" LOL...

Could be worse: My husband has called his parents by their first names pretty much forever. They were both college students for much of his childhood, and all of the friends and classmates who came over to their house called them Pam and Jeff, so he figured he should too. His mom tried to stop it once he was about 6, but being the precocious, gifted child he was, he thought it was pretty stupid since Mom wasn't her name and refused to do it.

That's my sweetie.

When my daughter was 3 she became very intrigued with my step-mother and her relation to me. For a while she made a point of informing grocery checkers, mail carriers, random victims, that I was her step-mother (I'm not). Once someone made a comment about evil step-mothers and my daughter got a lot of play out of that one. I'll never forget when she told a grocery clerk that I was her evil step-mother. She was just so little and innocent - it was pretty funny.

I know! My son turns 3 in March and he delights in calling us "mom" and "dad" and rolling his eyes... ugh!!! He picked it up from listening to dh and I refer to our parent(s) as "mom and dad" and to listening to his older (teens!) cousins calling their mom(s) and dad(s) that too. I, too, miss my cute "toddler" (we're also not allowed to call him a toddler our (god forbid) a baby anymore... it's little BOY or KID or bust)! lol

dd has tried experimenting with "mom" & "dad" a few times but i'm still recovering from the "mama" and "dada" transition i LOVED being "mama" and she'll still call me that every once in a while. i'm going to try to hold onto "mommy" as long as i can!

Ds usually calls me Mom, which sounds really adorable coming out of his 3yo mouth. To dd I am mommy, mama, or ma Ma (Dora the explorer) But its aok, They usually refer to dh and I as Mom and Dad (Like we are one entity), and their bio dad as Daddy

Shelley, mom to dd 5/19/01, ds 9/06/02, and ds 4/01/07.  Lost babe 4/09
