My ds is almost 6 and hasn't taken naps since he was 2. The last few days he has been really grumpy and whiny in the afternoons (a sure sign that he's tired) and has fallen asleep for a couple of hours in the late afternoon. he's still sleeping the same amount at night maybe going to sleep a half hour later or so. He has been sick but is on antibiotics and has felt fine the last few days. Anyway should I be worried? Dh says he's probably just having a growth spurt, but I'm concerned that something might be wrong. Anyone had a child this age go through a stage of needing a nap?

It does sound like a growth spurt combined with getting over an illness. Even though he seems better his body is probably still trying to get it's stamina back up.

I am so glad you poated this. My 5 1/2 year old has recently started taking long naps in the afternoon. She gave them up 2 years ago. I guess it is just something kids this age need.

The truest answer to violence is love. The truest answer to death is life. The only prevention for violence is for the heart to have no violence within it.  We cannot prevent evil through any system devised by mankind. But we can grapple with evil and defeat it, but only with love—real love.
