Are they conscientious about lead paint, etc? Recalls?
We have a drug store in town here that carries a ton of really neat M&D toys and I'll definitely invest in them if they are worthy. Most are wood, not plastic and I love that!
I think for the most part they are lead free or w/in range.
Here's a website that says she called them and was confirmed that on the phone w/a rep. Hopefully that is true. We have a bunch of their blocks and puzzles, play food and ... I can't remember. Some other stuff too. I do like their stuff, but be careful - some of their stuff isn't MIC and some is. hth!
Until recently, all I had heard was that although some of their toys are made in China, they do independent testing and do not put out dangerous toys. The other day, however, right here at MDC, I came across a link for a 2006 European recall of one of their toys (a wooden shape-sorting clock, which we had and have since tossed).
I still think they're safe for the most part (although many moms around here have mentioned paint flaking off quickly), but I'm a little more cautious since becoming aware of this recall.
I REALLY don't like their stuff. We had several things when ds was younger, back when I thought any wood was better ( wrong!) and the paint chipped off almost everything. I don't care if its lead or not- that is really bad imo for a kids toy.
My son loves the floor puzzles and cutting food. I did have a painted rattle and the paint started chipping off that. I just keep the cutting food from the baby so he doesn't chew on it.
