I wasn't sure where to put this, so I'm cross-posting it in three places.

This is the first tutorial I've ever done. It's for sock stick horse - really easy, really fast, really cute and *really* inexpensive. It would make a fun Christmas present. My four 1/2 year old plays with hers all the time, and my 2 year old loves hers.

I bought a pack of 10 pairs of cotton socks for $6, a sheet of 4 buttons for 50 cents, two $1 dowels and used 1/2 a bag of $3 batting for two horses. I used fabric and ribbon scraps I had. So each horse cost me $3.10. You could do it even cheaper if you used all items that you had on hand already.

Cute. I want to make one. They look easy enough for even me to do.

These are so adorable that I had to make a couple tonight, which I did. Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial! My older son loves to play on these when there are out and to find out that I could make them for practically free was amazing. I had almost all the materials. Total cost per horse was around $2.5 (One is not completely finished as I still need a dowel and a little more ribbon.

Thank you thank you thank you!!:

Oh, thank you mamas! They're a bit addicting once you get going, and since socks come in pairs, you can never make just one.

Dove, I'm so glad he likes it! That makes me smile big.

Well I've made four of the heads with plans to do two more (yes, before Christmas) and I must say they are very fun.

here is a link to a pic one of the horses heads:
