Hi! We recently received two recliners from a friend and are really enjoying them! I'm wanting to crochet matching covers for the headrests. I'd like something that doesn't look too country-ish, if ykwim. I'm looking for ideas, but not finding much. What would you suggest for yarn weight, a pattern etc.? Where should I look? I'm not finding patterns specifically for headrests. Maybe I should just find an afghan that I like & make a mini version of it. Your thoughts....

I'd suggest using something fairly sturdy, like Red Heart Super Saver. Without knowing more about the headrests (are they semi-detached? what shape? do they move?) I can't give a whole lot of input. However, your idea of a mini-afghan will probably work perfectly.

I agree except with the Red Heart suggestion. I can't stand working with acrylic or touching it. Wool and cotton have worked well for people for centuries and should work well for you covers as well.

Mom of a 7 yr old, 4 yr old, and 1 yr old. Wow. How did that happen?

The recliners are the standard La-z-boy, with a fluffy rectangular back that extends into a fluffy headrest. It's all one piece & doesn't get smaller at the top or anything, so the headrest is the same size as the back. Make any sense? It's just your standard La-z-boy, if you kwim.

So, I got a book from the library yesterday called Illustrated Patchwork Crochet. I like it & am looking in it for ideas of shapes to stitch together. I think I may go with that. I really liked the pattern of various sized circles attached to each other, but dh wasn't so cool with it, so I'm still looking.

I think Red Heart Super Saver is A rough feeling yarn, so I'll avoid it for this project, but may go with something of similar weight. I think using a fine yarn would make it look too much like a doily & it would turn into something that's too country-ish.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

-I love the 2nd and 3rd patterns here.

I don't think that the Victorian antimacassars look at all countryish, but ymmv. It could be interesting to play with colours as well, though.
Oh, and I'd use a cotton yarn in doubleknit, whatever you decide.

Thanks for pointing me towards http://www.antiquepatterns.dreamhost.../RiegoCro6.pdf

I do like the 2nd one on there! It's pretty. I think using a doubleknit cotton thread may work for me, especially in a color other than white.

And as much as I didn't think I'd like doilies, I do like crochet doily 1 from the vintagepatterns website. It's not like most of the ones I've seen. I like the varying textures & patterns.

I knew from the beginning that this was a project that I'd have to search & search for before I found something I really liked. I'm going to give it plenty of time before I make my final selection. I have plenty of projects to crochet in the meantime. Thanks for helping me along in my search!!

Thanks! I don't really need that many options. I'll never whittle it down now! Haha! On the other hand, it is nice to see that there are lots of ideas out there because before I was seeing the project without many options. I'll have fun looking around until I find just the right one.
