I'm trying to call out the troops for a special project...to make a doll for each of the orphans cared for by a special young woman in Uganda. You can read more about the project here.

There's a simple cloth doll pattern that I designed. But we've also got a SUPER cute gnome doll pattern that's been donated by an etsy seller and I found a couple of options for crochet. All of the dolls are approx 10-12" tall and are great stash-user-uppers.

I don't crochet really but I've been testing out the knit pattern this week and it's simple enough for very beginners. If I can do it, you can do it! (I still have to look up how to purl with every new project!)

We've got over 200 dolls pledged, but still have a ways to go before we get to 350 - the minimum amount the group can accept. (They have a policy that what one child gets, they all get.)

Deadline is October 1 to pop in the mail to me. And then we're coordinating with a family traveling to Uganda to deliver them personally as a very special Christmas gift to these kids.

A gift like this, a doll that's made especially for them, will be treasured forever and give the kids something of their OWN to love and care for.

Thanks!!

Again, here is the link for all the info.

Just signed us up for two. Dh is out of work, but if he gets a job, we might be able to afford the materials for more. We'll knit our dolls!

Mama to two awesome kids. Wife to a wonderful, attached, loving husband. I love my job-- I'm a Midwife, Doula and Childbirth Educator, Classes forming now!

Lovely idea! I'll be crocheting.

Can I link you on my blogs to help spread the word?

This is such a great idea! I signed up for 2 but I hope my dd and I can make more. Is there any way to get the knitting pattern resent? It was downloaded to my phone and I couldn't view the attachment.

So, is there a knit pattern? I don't crochet, but I'd love to knit some dolls.

YES! It's this pattern. Very simple...even I can do it! I can't post the pattern since she just donated it to this project specially. But if you fill out the volunteer form, there's a box to check to I know you need the pattern sent to you. (Don't be fooled by the description in the pattern...he's only about 12" tall.)

Got it. Thanks. Off to the yarn store tomorrow for some brown yarn.

Does anyone know how to put hair on a doll? I think I'd like to try that, but I have no idea how to do it.

The way I do it with Waldorf dolls is to make a little cap and stitch it on and then hook hair in with a crochet hook (like latch hook).

I'm sure there's other ways.

Has anyone had any trouble receiving the email with the knitting directions? I have asked twice to have it emailed but for some reason, Earthlink tells me it is undeliverable and I cannot open it.
