I am trying to, for once, get a really good gift for the three-year-old next door. There's almost nothing he actually settles down to do, but I do think that he'd enjoy a dress-up box. Now, if it were just me and him to please, I'd load up and the boas and high heels and pink sparkles and he'd eat it up, but his mother has much more traditional ideas on gender, and I know that if the setup seems a little too much like a "girl toy" to her, it's liable to quietly disappear. So, without breaking the bank, what sorts of things can go into a unfailingly macho dress-up box?

So far I've thought of super-hero and king capes, a crown, maybe some long underwear with a stenciled hero-symbol on the chest...but these are all ideas that take either time or money. I need those clever filler-ideas I know you smart mamas have!

Tails also seem popular, either fastened onto a belt or with a pad to stuff in the waistbands of thier clothes.

If you like near IKEA they have small reflective jackets, the sort workmen wear.
