I've been spinning with a drop spindle for a while. Not advanced, but probably between beginner and intermediate. I have to run but I'm joining the tribe and I'd be happy to answer what questions I can.

You will probably find more spinners in A&C

Can someone help me out with plying? I have read about it but can't quite figure out what to do. I am waiting for my book to come in, but thought maybe someone would have some insight.

Did you have specific questions? I haven't done much plying, but the plying I have done seemed pretty simple. I tied my strands in a knot in one end, and spun them the opposite way I spun them (Does that make sense? like if it is an s yarn, z ply. or vice versa. If you spun clockwise spinning, spin counterclockwise plying.) The hard part was keeping track of the balls of unplyed yarn. major pita. I suspect using say... shoe boxes for each ball would help immensely. you could either do the tops off, or cut a hole in the top and put the string through. you might even be able to put all the balls in one box and have seperate holes but I haven't tried it....

Well, since I haven't quite gotten the hang of making my own ply yarn yet, I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get some.

I have moved this thread to Arts and Crafts because I think you might get more responses there.

I spin on a drop spindle. Hopefully I will be getting a wheel in the summer. I can't wait. But I do love the portability of the spindle. I usually take it to the library with me when I take my littlest one to story time or arts and crafts. I end up with an hour of uninterrupted spinning time.
