I've decided to make Christmas ornament sets for family this year (snowmen "familes"....one snowman per person to make up their families). Broke is an under statement so this works. I don't want super plain ones but have no idea what things to use. What could I use arms and faces? Hats and scarves? I suppose I could knit those last two since they would be easy enough but I'd like the arms to be twiggy and faces to be coal and carrots.

Oh, I'm making them out of bakeable playdough so they'll be decently sized.

I'd probably use actual twigs for the arms and maybe break up a briquette or two of charcoal for the eyes/mouth/buttons. The charcoal would be messy, but maybe you could coat it with clear nail polish or polyurethane or something to keep it sealed? Otherwise, maybe color some of the dough black (I'd probably use dutch-process cocoa for some of the main dry ingredient in the recipe) then let it dry, but not bake it and crumble off some coal-like chunks.

As for carrots ... maybe look up some instructions online for marzipan fruits and veggies, but just make it with your dough? Or see if you can find some dollhouse grocery items?

For scarves I would do fleece, you could buy some from the leftovers bin and just cut strips and fray cut the ends.

Would your snowman families represent specific people? Like a basketball for a son and a snow-dolly for a daughter. Or, a briefcase for the mommy and an apron for the daddy?

No, just one for each person. All of them will look like snowmen. I might carve in their first initial on the bottom. I found a poem to go with it so I'll be including that as well.
