Hi, there! Any musical mamas able to help me w/ my quandry?

I am gift shopping for my dds (ages 6, 3, and 1) and would like to have more music in our home. I would like to get a glockenspiel or xylophone for them (I don't mean a toy one). Do you have any recs? Which one, #of notes, brands, price range, accessories, etc. I need to spend less than $100, preferably less than $50.

Thanks for your help! If there is another instrument that would be preferabe, please feel free to recommend.

Your best bet in that price range is to go to a local middle school (or high school) band department and see if they have any used percussion 'kits', the kinds that beginning percussionists get from the music stores; and that includes a snare drum, bell set, practice pad (typically) and a carrying case, you may luck out and get sticks included. Ocassionally, a child will start up in band and switch instruments or quit after the parents bought their instrument, and then just need to get money back by selling it. I'd check there, and if those sources are fruitless ask them where they'd go. Try to stay local to save on shipping!

Thanks for your reply.

About the kits, do they sell the items separately? I have no space for the other percussion instruments, and not much space for the glockenspiel or xylophone.

Anyone know good names? Right now I am looking at this set on amazon.com.

Anyone have input on this particular set? On something comparable?

TIA!
