B/W 2: Because it has a nice movement to it, and seems more visually interesting.
B/W 2: Because it encourages the eye to continue moving around the photo.
Comments on other photos:
BW1 - pretty and soft, but the colors may be too muted for a black and white photo. There isn't a lot of contrast going on.
BW3 - high impact, but only on the flower area. The stem area doesn't have anything going on, and the eye gets trapped in the flower area.
Color1 - I like this one, but I felt my eye was trapped in the center of the flower. I think it's a cool effect for a trance-like photo, but not for showcasing a particular flower.
Color3 - I love the color and light in this one. However, the leaf in the foreground is distracting, and the tear in the petal is unfortunate.
You take some really nice pictures!!! I grow orchids at work (we have a long windowsill), and I love seeing pictures of pretty orchids!
