this is cross posted to my DDC.

Ok mommas, I want to get a mobile over the crib...and one for the changing table area...but I mean come on 30 bucks for a mobile is CRAZY to me and plus they're all so ugly to me and play horrid music.

I want to make something simple...butterflies ds6 says is a must and I want black and white plus some colors...but I don't know how to make one!!

Anyone have any ideas, pictures, websites they can share to help me on my crazy craft adventure??

I love this one

I'm looking for a suitable hoop to make it.

For DD I made one with felt birds, I cut out 2 bird shapes, sewed round the edge, stuffed and added a matching coloured feather for a tail. I strung it on two crossed sticks. It was simple but pretty effective, we had it over the changing table.

If you want to make some simple felt butterflies how about googling for butterfly colouring pages. I often find I can print out simple shapes from them to use as templates.

I made this monstrosity.

I LOVE it, and so does V. I posted something of a tutorial, but if you want clearer directions, I'd be happy to tell you exactly how I made The Most Unnecessarily Elaborate Mobile Ever In The World.

I made one from tinker toys for the bars and then used the wood animal cut outs from Michaels. I strung them up and hung the mobile after. I really like it!

Yes yes! I love those birds from Spool. I used them for Christmas ornaments and finally got around to making a mobile. After getting frustrated with trying to sew them sitting on top of the branch I gave up and let them hang. I should take a pic of it...some day.

Good luck with the butterflies, sounds like fun! I love all the great ideas.

I just made a butterfly mobile. I copied something I found on etsy. You could look there to get some ideas. I cut out butterfly shapes and strung them from an embroidery hoop. It took longer than I thought, but it wasn't very difficult.

I am planning to make something similar and will be using a piece of basketweaving reed to make the hoop. My mother also suggested that the inside of an old embroidery hoop would work but I don't have one I'm willing to make a mobile out of. Now, if I found one at GW I might do this.
