i just got an old ping remington sewing machine. the thing weighs around 40, no joke! it is awesome though. i can't find any info out there on it. does anyone know remingtons? where i can get more info or a manual?
I've seen Remingtons on needlebar.org, I think. Somewhere on the machine is probably Made in Japan. And, being pink, it was most likely made in the 1950's or early 60's. I have a few pink machines. None of them are Remingtons, but all were made in Japan and all use Singer type 15 bobbins and needles and such. There is a vintage Japanese sewing machine yahoo group that also may have some more information for you.
Personally, I love old machines and of those, the Japanese made "badged" machines are my favorite, even over my Singers.Usually, a little removing of old fuzz and dust and a little oiling is all it takes, assuming that the wiring is good.
As for a manual, all of my machines were made by Brother for the various companies (ElectroGrand, Coronado, Atlas, etc.) and I have had luck looking for Brother manuals for machines that look the same. It took some doing, but for example, my Coronado Selectomatic IV is the exact same as a Brother model 210. Morse is another common manufacturer of Japanese machines from that era.
that's great info. i will take a look at the website. it does have a made in japan on it. i will take a pic when i get a chance, it's purdy!
