I don't know where to put this, I didn't really notice any scrapbooking in Arts and Crafts.

Sooo, a couple of weeks ago I went to this all-day crop that is a fundraiser, and I won a Cricut in the raffle. I WAS excited, because I am just about the fugliest scrapbooker around and I thought it would help a little. But it turns out, you have to buy a separate cartridge for every single font. And the cartridges are not cheap, retailing at about $40 and going on Ebay for $20-30.

Isn't that ridiculous?

Anyway, I am generally a fan of intellectual property rights, but this thing came with a USB port, and I kind of think modifying a tool to make it work for your purpose is a pretty gray area.

Anyone done this? Anyone want to? I don't have any idea what it would take, I'm pretty much the opposite of tech-savvy. Just thought I'd put it out there for fun!

I scrapbook and know what a Cricut is, but I don't own one. Nearly every scrappin' friend does, though. Check out "Design Studio" for what you want to do. Otherwise, you'll need to fine a techie geek to help you out.

Also, you can find the cartridges on sale in certain places. Keep looking.

Have you seen this program?

http://www.craftedge.com/products/products.html

It's not cheap, about $75 (or $60 if you want the download only with no cd). But it seems to allow you to use all your Truetype fonts and your own artwork, so it might be worth the investment.

(FWIW I just plugged your subject line into Google and found lots of people talking about how great this program is. )

Yes, but if you get Design Studio, you still have to have the cartridges.
