I recently picked up a 100% wool blanket at thrift store to use for crafting. Do dryer balls have to have a wool core? Could I make a ball from the fabric and stuff it super firmly with something else? A tennis ball? Stuffing? fabric scraps? More wool blanket?

Thoughts?

More wool blanket sounds like a good idea because then the ball would felt and shrink at a more uniform rate. It is worth giving it a try at least!
