I just knit my ds a sweater, my first. I know you're suppose to block something like that, but I have no idea how to do it. Can anyone tell me how to do it, or let me know a website that tells you how?? Any help would be most appreciated! ~~Peace
If it's made of a fiber that you should not dry in the dryer, they give it a good soak in your soap/detergent of choice and roll it in a towel to squeeze out all excess water. I like to put mine in the spin cycle in my washer. Then, I lay the garment out to dry flat on a towel or my blocking boards. I smooth out the stitches and then make sure the sleeves, body width and length are the measurements I intended. If they are, I just let it dry. If a little short, I pull it to the desired length and pin in place to dry. If a little big, I smoosh the fibers together as best I can to, again, allow it to dry to the desired dimensions and with the desired smoothness to my stitches.
I generally don't knit with superwash wool, but have heard that it is best to throw it in the dryer and not block it (lay it flat in the desired shape/dimensions to dry). I've heard it tends to grow with a wash, but springs back in the dryer.
Mama to a dd 10/05; ds 3/09, dd 2/15 and two angels. Expecting another miracle 7/16!
