I am getting involved with a local paygroup this fall and was trying to brainstorm for ideas.

I would love some suggestions for interesting crafts for 1 - 5 year olds. We are able to do some preparation but have only a reasonably short time to do the craft with the kids....any ideas???

This is a web site Ilove because there are so many Ideas, you can search by, theme, or by what you happen to have in the cuppboard that week. sooooooooo many Ideas have fun!

I love freestyle art projects with a group with this wide an age range. To try:

finger or toe painting

collect leaves on a nature walk and make a collage

trace their bodies on large paper then let them colour

provide a bunch of odds and ends - feathers, buttons, string, paper and fabric scraps, whatever, and just let them create

Dip a small ball in their choice of paint, let them place a paper in a shoe box. Put the ball in, cover with lid and let them roll and shake the ball around.

Sculpt with salt clay mixture

Save your egg cartons and let them paint them with water color paints. They can then take them home to put things in them.

It was a big hit when I did that craft at our playgroup!

Just a few ideas:

Making macaroni necklaces is fun- they get to put macaroni on string- good for eye/hand coordination, then can paint and wear or give as gift! (Thick ziti is good for littler ones)

Also making self portrait can tear or cut pictures from old magazines & put together college that tell who they are. (you can precut pictures too to make it easier)

Homemade can play w/ this forever.

Colored Tissue paper glued in between two transparent vellum sheets to make "sun catchers". You hang in window & it looks pretty when light comes through.

Paper puppets- Butterflies- birds, dogs etc. made w/ construction paper the glued to popsicle stick. Kids can then do a puppet show w/ their creatures. (Good to have those google eyes to glue onto animals faces.)
