I am so proud of these and I am dying to share! I made these diapers over the course of the last 4 or 5 months (off and on) and I am so thrilled with the way they turned out! The bodies are 2 layers of organic sherpa with a hand-dyed organic jersey outer. The snap in soaker is 2 layers of organic sherpa with a layer of organic velour on top. I used 3/8" polybraid for the elastic.

Ok, enough of that. Ready for some pics?:

Aren't they fab?? I have always wanted a diaper rainbow. Thanks so much to everyone here in the crafts forum that helped answer all my questions along the way!

oooh pretty!! I love how there are the basic colors and then the more mottled ones in between.

I wish I had the space to dye. I need a laundry counter with a sink!!

Ok, now I am embarrassed that my thread from diapering wound up here too. : I guess I just got too excited about posting!

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. If you are ever in my neck of the woods, feel free to stop by and pet them in person.

Amy - instead of a pattern, I followed the basic design of a well-fitting diaper we already had. I just wanted to start with something that I already knew worked rather than sewing something totally new and having it not turn out right, kwim?

Robin - I used the bathtub with no visible permanent damage (we rent). I just scrubbed any colored spots with a little Bon Ami when I was done, no problem. But from this experience I can tell you that if you do use your bathtub, you might want to clean any hair out of the drain *before* you start dumping your dye water down it, as opposed to pulling a really weird hairball out of it the next day.

Jessica - I don't know if I'm ever parting with these! I told dh that we should have more kids just so we can have another toddler to fill these dipes when ds outgrows them. :LOL But I did buy my elastic and serger thread from you and it all worked out so well, so maybe we can arrange visitation rights?

How long did it take you to do the dying?? We only have one bathroom and I can't take up much room in there for very long before someone gets upset.

It did take the majority of the day but it doesn't necessarily all need to be done in the bathroom. I measured the dye powder in there b/c it was raining and with the fan on I figured that room had the best ventilation, but you could easily do that outside. And after that the only thing I really needed the tub for was dumping out the dye (I wanted to dump it where the water would go to a treatment facility) and rinsing. Other than the dumping and rinsing, if you have access to a hose and a toddler-free environment for a few hours, you should be set. Oh, and you might want to enlist some help schlepping the full buckets as they can get heavy.

Since I did so many colors I divided the fabric among 5 gal. buckets and had all the buckets going at once. If you wanted to do a bunch of stuff one color you can use your washing machine for the whole process. I think most people don't use the tub for the actual dyeing unless they are doing more than a bucket load and don't have access to a washer. Baby crying, gotta run!

He's not the most cooperative model (they wanted him for a Gymboree ad but he wouldn't stay still for the photographer!) and the rest are in the wash, but isn't the fit awesome??

bluenail - I did use Dharma's fiber reactive dyes. The colors were jungle red, soft orange, bright yellow, bright green, alpine blue, and lapis. The purple was just a little jar of Procion purple from the craft store. If I had it to do over, I would have chosen something lighter than the lapis and I would have pasted all the dyes when mixing (the solids are spotted), but other than that, I love how the colors came out. I did one diaper in each solid color and then the in-betweens are combos: red-orange, orange-yellow, yellow-green, etc. done in the low-water immersion method.

Thanks for humoring me everyone! You all made me feel extra happy and proud with your sweet comments.

I hope not! I would have to make some kind of extender - like the ones you can get for bras and onesies. :LOL

Oh I had extenders for diapers once! They were Snapdragons! They were very much like a onesie extender except they were tapered correctly!
