My neighbor gave me a chain letter for quilters--you send out two 6x6 inch squares of purple fabric, add your name, etc, etc. I'm not a fan of chain letters myself, plus mathematically I don't think the numbers work quite right, but I think it would be neat to have a quilt with fabrics that others chose.
So how about it? I'm thinking we could all go and get some 100% cotton fabric with some purple on it, whether it be checked, floral, patterened, solid, stripe, etc--whatever speaks to us-- cut the squares and have a swap.
I guess it would depend on how many people wanted to participate, how many squares we would each have to contribute. I'd be willing to collect the squares and then send them back out to everyone. I was thinking a 72 block quilt, but that's negotiable.
pixie-n-hertwoboys~ thanks for giving us your status... I know things can come up... just so we know to expect some from you still. And keep us posted. I know it might seem like a big job but all in all it only took me 30 min to cut & divide.
Is April out there?
Did you receive from her, motherkins?
I really want to get started on this! It'll be my first quilt, I've only done patchwork blocks to sew onto other things, like bags, etc. Does anyone plan to cut their blocks to make anything else? I remember earlier mention of a pinwheel quilt. I was thinking of adding borders to make it larger but with the variety of fabrics it would be hard to come up w/something to match. I really want to lay them all out & decide from there. What are you going to do?
Pixie and Rainbowmoon- Thanks for letting us know. My MIL is coming next weekend to help me figure out the quilt top since it's my first real quilt project, so if it would be possible to get those by then that would be great!
mine are going out today finally!!!! sorry mamas life has been a bit
I should have thought of that before signing up for this swap. so again I apologize for how long it took me to get them out. hopefully everyone will have mine by the weekend!
i agree! i know we all deal with life stuff, and i think we've all been waiting around for all of the fabric to come in. it's only fair that people who sign up make good on their agreement to the group.
it's my first swap too, so i dont know anything about feedback, but it sounds like the right thing to do!
Pixie~ I think since you signed up after we started, we all had the option to send to the 11th person, which would be you, I think. Any one who did should have contacted you for you addy. I know I did!
So would the originator of the swap have all the usernames so we could do feedback now? I think I only have physical names and addresses.
I sent to you, pixie.. I had the 2 deep, dark purples, one looked like swirly, curly hair & the other has tiny flowers...
I received an email from you w/your address & sent it right out.
so looking on prev. posts, participants by username
yeah unfortunatly not everyone could send out to me I think... I sent out to those who sent to me. I think I got from 6 or 7? oh and they went out earlier this week. I hope they made it.
My mil laid out the squares and went to the quilt store to figure backing borders, etc. This is what we came up with.
The amount of squares, even traded with the eleventh person doesn't even amount to a twin size. I alternated every other square with a square of the fabric I sent out. I think it came to 12 rows of 13, or 13 rows of 12, however you look at it, of 6 inch squares. I bought 2 fabrics @ 1 yard apiece to make 2, 6 inch borders.
The backing is two 44 inch across pieces. It came to 5 yards split for that.
Don't quote me on this, trying to figure out what we finally came up with was kinda tricky since we over estimated and bought more fabric than we needed, so I need to get the right final sizes. here is a link to the quilt so far, just missing the last pieces from Pixie.
adina, that looks awesome! i hope you'll be flattered if i copy you to a point!
