This sounds like a great reason for me to to start a blog. Hopefully I'll have time to work on it by this weekend.

Help!!! I found a template I really love!! But I can't make it work with blogger.com Here's my blog: http://cherylann.blogspot.com/ I've been messing with it on and off since last night and finally got my links to show up and a few other things, but it's still all messed up. Does anyone here have experience with custom templates? My only experience with html has been via dreamweaver and I don't own the software...only had it at work. If I had dreamweaver I'd just rework the template to look the way I want it to, but this way, I'm guessing and making a mess.

The big things I need to fix:

The center section...the body...should be mauve. There is an image there to create the background color, but it's not showing.

I can't create a table to fit inside the left bar. Consequently, the text and images there are breaking the table and have no margins.

The blog entries have no margins.

The blogger.com toolbar across the top hides part of my template. I need to create some kind of spacer to push the images down farther, but I have no clue how to put such a spacer image into a table so that that actually works!

Thank you to anyone who can help. I am enjoying figuring it out on my own, but I seem to be at an impass now. Any advice would be so much appreciated. I love this art so much and would really like to be able to use it.

ahhh! This is a wee bit frustrating. I did go to the template page at blogger and added the ring code in what I thought would be the side bar but it is showing up in the entry.....

Hi Tonya,

I just looked at your page code. You need to paste it in right in the section for the links. Scroll WAY down until you see this:

<!-- Begin #sidebar -->

and under that

<----h2 class="sidebar-title">Links</h2----> (without the hyphens)

Paste the code into the second line, one of the ones that reads "edit me". Highlight from the "<a href" part through the "edit-me" part and then paste in the code over that. THen it will appear in the sidebar.

Oh, and before you paste it in, please change the ring ID from 2 to 37 in two lines, the ones that end in "next" and "Previous".

Thanks!

Thank you so very much for your kindness and time. My blog should be all set now. I added the link in my signature.

Many thanks!

Thanks Michelle, I made a typo in the URL. I'll have to fix it later during a break!

In the meantime, click on "member list" in the sidebar and you can go to her blog from there.

Would someone who uses Xanga please post instructions for adding the code to your blog? We have a new member who needs to add her code, and we're not sure how to do it. Thanks so much!!!

for xanga I suggest:

click on your name in the top right hand corner between xanga and log out
click on your profile on left side
click on interests
paste the html into either "interests" or "expertise"

click on save changes.

tah-dah, it'll be right under your profile picture !

You can also do it this way:

From her blog, click on "Look and Feel"

Once on that page, scroll down to the "custom module" box. Paste the copied text there. Then click "save changes".

I think I joined!

Is it ok that my blog is about my kids too? I mostly keep it for family to keep up to date with us and I don't have to write the same email a dozen times a month (lazy I am! )
But i have been writing about knitting a TON more lately!

here is mine!

Dawn, I'm sure it's fine that your blog represents your life and not just knitting. Many of ours do, and IMO it makes it more interesting!

I'm having a problem in that I am not allowed to comment on many of the blogs because a lot of people have them set up so they won't accept bloggers who are not registered on your format. My blog is independent, and I can't keep my head straight if I have to register at 1000 places--it's getting to be too much. I tried to do that 'open ID' thing but can't figure out what to do there.

So I have been reading your blogs, but I can't comment on a lot of them.

Dawn- I approved you! We love to hear about kids and other non-knitting things!

gardenmom, could you just leave an anonymous comment and put your name at the end of the comment? I don't think you need to register to comment anonymously.

Shoot, Gardenmom. I hope mine is not one of them! I've reset that area to allow anyone, but I don't really believe it's working.

I admit mine doesn't allow anonymous comments because when I (happily) announced my 3rd pregnancy I had rude anti-GBD comments on my blog like "Oh, great- another GBD brat on the way".

I don't mind comments, but not ones that mess with my BP when I'm preggers.

yay, i think i finally sorted out my code and joined the ring.

http://www.xanga.com/mamamuse

mine is a bit of an eclectic blog about my journey into motherhood, waldorf, homeschooling, knitting, etc. it's brand new so i haven't got to the knitting part yet, but it's coming! i'm a newbie knitter and am getting very inspired by all your blogs

i'd love comments once i get going, though i don't know if it's set to accept them from other sites...

Woohoo! I did it! Took some tinkering, as there appears to be a fairly small character limit for the "Interests" sectin of Xanga, but I'm on there - Fruity Sheep.

Congratulations to our new members! As each of you join, there should be a post on the host blog (mdcknitring.blogspot.com) introducing you with a link to your blog. We haven't gotten around to the last two members yet but if you joined earlier and don't see a post about you somewhere there, drop us a PM or an e-mail (mdcknitring@gmail.com)

I just wanted to remind everyone that they need to have the ring info somewhere on their blog. I like to ringsurf to see other MDC mama's blogs, and I do it by clicking the "next" or the "random" link on the ring that's supposed to be on all our blogs. But some blogs are missing the ring, which makes their site a kind of dead-end.

[I hope it's okay that I'm posting this on this thread. I couldn't figure out how to post it on the ring blog.]

A couple of them (Live Journal, maybe?) have the ring info in their "other info" area.

Yes, LJ users have it in "user info" like Knitting Sheeple and Joycemakesart. so you have to click on that page to find the ring code.

There are still a few people who have incorrect site IDs in their code which also makes the ring not fully functional but I have already e-mailed them and I guess some are too busy. There's not much I can do beyong reminding. Maybe I'll offer prizes to those who fix it! heehee.

Anyway, I'm going to talk to Sarah this weekend about setting up some of the projects we have talked about for the knit ring to do. Stay tuned!
