The ring is all ready to go now. If you want to join, you can go to the ring homepage and click on "Join the Ring!" over in the sidebar. Once you do that, you'll have to type in your blog name and url, plus a few other things. You'll then be given the html code to paste into your blog template. The code contains the button made by darkhorsemama (thanks!), but if you want to use the other one instead, you can get that on the website. Feel free to use whichever button you like. Once you get your button in place, we'll approve you and you'll officially be a member. If there is something specific you'd like us to say in your intro paragraph, feel free to email us at mdcknitring @ gmail.com (without the spaces).

If you need help with the html stuff, PM me. I'm no expert but I'll do my best to help you.

I'm excited about this ring and very much looking forward to reading your blogs!

P.S. A ring is a "club" where members who have websites or blogs that fit a certain criteria join. For us, it is to be a MDC member and also to have a blog related to yarn crafts. Once you join and add the code to your site, then visitors can click from within your blog to visit the next member of the ring, and so on.

So far, we have 8 members. I know there are at least 30 of us who blog so let's make it really fun by having lots of members to visit!

Guess I just wait now for official induction into the club...

Hi Leila - There are several websites that host blogs. Some are free and some are not. Most of us use Blogger (www.blogger.com) which is easy and simple yet customizable if you want to change the template you've chosen, etc. Others use typepad (although this has a fee) or Xanga or Livejournal.

Take a look at the links in the signatures of the previous posters in this thread. That will give you an idea of how people can have different layouts, etc. We'd love to include you once you set it up!

Leila, there are several blog hosts from which to choose. Blogger, xanga, and LiveJournal are a few. I use Blogger and I'm really happy with it. It's easy to format your own template, post pictures, and just generally pretty user-friendly. To start a blog there, just go to www.blogger.com and follow the instructions. You'll have to choose a template and decide on your settings, but the whole process only takes a few minutes.

Good luck!

Well, I would pick a prettier template if you don't like the dark spots. Then you'll have to find someone who knows about HTML who can insert a background jpg that you like. Or pick a plain template and put in some photos in the top part. But again, you'll need to learn about HTML.

i got the code onto my user info page does that mean i'm signed up now?

there was a problem with the code -- a missing > after an img. not sure if that was a livejournal issue or not, but i fixed that, although i'm still showing a center tag that i need to go back and hide.

if anyone knows anything about embedding journals in your webpage--i would love to do that with mine and would be interested in trading for, or maybe even paying for someone to do it.

Joyce, can you post or PM me the corrected code? I have LJ blog too, and I'm getting an error. I'm useless with HTML and can't figure out what I need to do to correct the problem.

Thanks so much!

Sarah -

To add it to your template, go to your Blogger dashboard and click the "Template" tab. You'll see a screen filled with a bunch of html stuff. Scroll down in that screen, almost to the bottom, and look for this.

<!-- Begin #sidebar -->

Underneath that you will see your sidebar items (previous posts, archives, etc.) listed in html format. Choose where in that space you want your button to go. If you want it above those things, just paste the ring code after this

<!-- End #profile -->

I hope this helps you!

Hi Leila,

Go to User CP and click on "edit your signature" - which you already know how to do. Type in or choose the name that you want to be clicked on to link to your blog (such as your name) and then click on the little picture of a globe with a set of chain links on it. This is the "link to the world wide web" button. In the popup window, type the URL of your blog. Tada!

Timelines are more complicated as they take HTML code to do. Why don't you look around and pick one that you'd like to use and I'll help you to mimic it.
