So I called my walmart's (yes, plural) and they don't carry super flannel, and they just recently stopped carrying diaper flannel. My local quilt shop usually has diaper flannel, but not right now, and I want to try this now! So, is there anything else particular I should look for in flannel at walmart?

Ok, when i called my wal-mart they said they didn't have either. so iwent to walmart and asked where the interfacing was because someone mentioned that was where they found the diaper flannel. the woman there showed me and low and behold there was super flannel, said right on the side of the roll, i asked if they had diaper flannel and she said they usually carry it right there but they must be out. so go look near the interfacing. also i found flannel in different marble like colors in the cleareance section called marble flannel for $2/yd, almost as thick as super flannel, plus really nice colors, like sage and lavender and peach.

I would check anyway, like Rebecca said sometimes they don't even realize it's there.

Walmart is hit and miss, you have to go there to see what they have. Look at their flannel; if it is see-thru, skip it. Check their bargain fabrics, because those are just random things they get from who knows where. A lot of it is junk, but there are some really good things mixed in there, sometimes you will hit the jack pot. Just look at and touch all the flannels. Find something really thick with a tight weave.

The closest WM here has diaper flannel for $1 a yard. If you get desperate, i could go and buy some yardage to ship to you!

At my super WalFart, the plain color, thick, and soft flannel is on the shelf under the interfacing and is regular $2.39/yd, 60" wide. The printed flannel is on the other side of the fabric dept by the sewing machines/sergers and ranges from $2.59/yd and up. Then, there are some $1 and $2 flannels on the clearance rack, some were nice and some were not. There was one that felt almost exactly like a plain cotton woven instead of soft like flannel. I had to do a double-check on the label to make sure it was really flannel. LOL

Hope this helps!
Amy

wow, is it always that cheap? The lady I talked to on the phone said they're not carrying it anymore, and when I asked if it was ALL walmarts or just this one, she said she thought probably all of them since it came from the head office.

If that's the case, you might want to run grab it all before it's gone But don't worry about shipping it to me. My local fabric shop said they should be getting some soon, and although it is over $2/yd, it would probably end up being that with the cost of shipping anyway, especially considering I really don't need that much. At least, not yet. Thanks for the offer though!

Yes, the diaper flannel is w/the interfacing at Walmart. It's double napped (fuzzy on both sides) and 27" wide. I think it's 2.79/yard. And it's really great stuff. I love diaper flannel wipes!

I can't imagine that all Walmarts are going to stop carrying it. That seems odd.

Okay so its the thin stuff but it was $1 a yard and now that I am learning more about dipes I am glad that I did get it but havent touched it as of yet. I am thinking of making prefolds out of it. Its thin, though not as thin as birdseye, 100% cotton and has a softy side to it. It would take to many layers to make a fitted dipe but a PF it will do fine or just soakers too.

PS someone worte that they are married to a "not-crunchy-yet-sometimes-suprises-me" man, we need to make a club or support group for us crunchy types who are drawen to non-crunchy partners, just something about computer geeks that gets me going. lol

Riki mommy to be in June, with not so crunchy partener who is attached to his computer and learning how to be crunchy, whether he likes it or not.

How about flat sheets? Lots of these are on sale now.... The price could be very low.

Though I have had very mixed results with washing flannel. One set of sheets pilled on me one of the first times I washed it.

My Wal-Mart has never stocked diaper flannel as far as I can tell. At least I can't find it. I don't visit often but I look for it when I do.

I definitely would go and check -- they probably don't really know what you're talking about, I'd imagine. I saw the superflannel at my local WalMart the other day, and it is SOOOO nice and thick and soft! In our store, it was not with the interfacing, but right above the bolts of canvas (which is GREAT STUFF for making MT straps, btw!).

Good luck!

Not that anyone cares, but it turns out that my Walmart DOES have super flannel!

I went searching yesterday, just to see, even though I asked the lady on the phone and she said they stopped carrying diaper flannel and no, they don't have anything called superflannel.

Well, I needed something so I was just looking at what they had. I was in the aisle with the quilters flannel and I found a few bolts of solid colors that seemed pretty thick and durable. I was taking the bolt of white up to the counter when I read on the bolt in that it said Super Flannel!! I was so surprised and excited! So I bought the whole bolt, which was only 3 yards, but I'm so glad they carry it. It was 2.57, like you guys said.
