I want to make a christening dress for our dd. my requirements are:
non frilly
cotton
easier to make.

i'm a fairly decent sewer, but as you might guess dd keeps me busy.

anyone made one from a pattern before?

I have made 4 from the burda pattern. They were all so different. I have also made a dress for a boy from a very plain pattern to which I just added length. When you made it you can really control the frill.

Good luck!

I haven't made one yet from a pattern, but I will be soon. At the really great President's Day sale at Jo-Ann Fabrics, I bought a Simplicity pattern that was about $11 for only $1. For fabric I'm using white satin that I'm cutting off the train of my wedding gown & I already have satin buttons, so I'm making this for only $1!
With a pattern, you can custom make it any way you want, so you can definately make one that is simple & non frilly. Also, just to get ideas you can surf the net to look at different ones (I can't believe some of the prices...$60, $100, up to $250!).
Good luck & have fun.
