Can anyone recommend a good superwash wool that would work with this project?

How about LB Wool-Ease?

There's a limited color selection, but maybe you could kool-aid dye some of the natural color?

wool ease won't dye well becuae of the high acrylic content

Um, superwash. only one I can think off offhand is kona, but that won't get anywhere near close to gauge. If you want machine washable, then maybe a blend is the way to go -like plymouth encore.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have a love/hate relationship with Wool-ease and Encore.
I should probably just ask if it is ok if I make the gift out of something that needs to be hand washed.

Knitpicks has a new superwash in a worsted weight.

I just finished a swing thing (see my blog) and I loved the pattern! Mine was made from a dreamy merino from Interlacements, alas not superwash.
