I'm trying to replicate this and others similar for ds, and for some silly reason can't get the clothes right. Do you think the main gown is two pieces sewn together or one piece? I like the way they've done the sleeves but can't get it right. Do i *need* to sew a body on or can I just put the clothes right on over the pipe cleaner/wool body? And how the h*** do I make trousers that I can get on the thing? And shoes?

And I thought this would be the easy part!

argh, the title was menat to be "clothes for dollhouse doll"...i guess i'm sleep deprived...how do i change a title?

It's kinda hard to tell under the beard, but I think it is four peices: a front, a back and two sleeves. The sleeves look very full and gathered.

If you don't care if the dolls are totally undressable I would just make his legs whatever color his "pants" are and not make little pants. KWIM?

It looks like all one piece to me, sewn kimono-style. The fold goes over the top of the arms/shoulders, and the sleeves are cut wide for gathering.

mehndi mama, ok, that's the route i was going; so the seams are sewed up along the sides? and sleeves gathered with a running stitch? here i go to try again...

Yep, sew it like you said. How did it come out? Remember that often it is easier to dress the doll before you put the head on, and if you want the body to be a bit more substantial, you can wrap a bit of wool roving around it.

got the dress/robe on, looks ok, but it's a bit short so i definitley need something on the legs. i used inner tubing to cover the body which helped a lot. i just love watching these things come to life.
gotta get it done by friday for ds's b.day and had intended to make a whole bunch more native american dolls for xmas...i'll have it down by then, i hope!

ok, pics of the king/prince coming tomorrow (i'm too tired after cake and ice cream ). It came out great, I have to say! I sat him on DS's chair (which we had turned into a throne for his b.day) so he came across him and just went silent. Later he was holding him studying him and asking me over and over who made it. When he finally accepted that I did he wanted to know all the details, how did I get the clothes on, etc etc! He'll probably go and make one himself tomorrow, knowing him : )
