I'm knitting something that needs to be knitted on a circular needle. I cast on the right amount of stitches but there's no way I can see that the ends are gonna join up coz the cable bit in the middle of the needle is too long. Am I missing some technique or do I need a shorter cable needle ?

If you cast on the correct number of stiches, and the needle cable is the right length, you should be able to reach both ends together to continue knitting. Sometimes the first time around I have to stretch it a little to meet up, but not too far.

I think you probably need to get needles with a shorter cable. Sounds like a good excuse to go back to the yarn store!! :

You can pull a loop of the cable out between two stitches if you have to, though it makes it a bit fiddly (sp?) as you go past these stitches to make sure that you keep everything even.

Thanx for your replies I've already tried pulling the loop of the cable out but it didn't really want to play. I went back to the yarn shop & ended up buying 4 double ended(?) needles instead. & I also got some really nice merino & possum yarn to try a few things with too so it wasn't a wasted trip

I'm just curious, what is the length of those circular needles?

Have you guys ever looked at knitting needles on ebay? There are TONS of them, and they're super cheap! You can get every single size for maybe $30!

I love that! I only have 5, 8, 13, and 15 straight needles.
