I've never done cables before and was doing a test drive last night on some scrap yarn... I'm worried now about this project I've already promised to make it for someone else but I don't know if I can! I'm thinking I may just do the top cable part then do the bottom with some sort of creative knit/perl combo instead of the cables. We'll see if I can get done with the top first

I think it would still look nice with the bottom completely plain. I bet once you do the pattern you'll find it easy, though. It's very repetitive -- if you can do it once you can do 15 times, lol.

I'm thinking I'm going to do an entirely different cable pattern on the bottom. I'm off to the library to get that Celtic Cables book...

I cast on...and got through the first 12 rows/1 repeat. At this point, I feel as though this project might take me forever .

I'm sure it will pick up, right?

I'm hoping to cast on tonight during the red carpet on E, (love brain-candy!), lol!
I just have to finish one buttonband on a cardigan for my son...should only take a few minutes but I've been ignoring for weeks. I'm still not sure which yarn to use, I've got some chocolatey brown cascade 220 and some green berrocco alpaca, both which would be pretty. I can't decide if I'm going to keep it for me or give it away.

OK, I'm going to try this too, but I might take a very long time because I have a newborn.

Add me in. DawnaRose convinced me. I don't have the yarn yet, so I'm hoping to stop by my LYS tomorrow and get some. (Mind you, this means skipping out of my office hours early...we'll see if it really happens.)

I am on my 4th repeat and I feel a bit more confident with the pattern. I don't have to look down at the paper with every stitch at this point. I can look back at the previous repeat and know what to knit on the RS. I just have to remember to tighten up my stitches since I have a tendancy to get a bit loose.

But I think I might need a month for this KAL... at least.

I cast on last night and finished through the fourth repeat on the top band. I've never done a provisional cast-on before and I'm not sure if I did it correctly. I figure if I messed up it shouldn't be a big deal to fake the grafting later. Otherwise it's going well.

I like this project so far. It's probably going to take a long time to finish, just because I'm working on so many other projects at the same time. This one is a little treat, just for me, so I'm going to try to sneak in a bit each day.

I *finally* found the chart pattern I'm going to put on the bottom center of the bag -- it's here. they're mailing the chart from Canada, so it will take a lil bit, I'm guessing. I'm going to do the side cable on the lower 1/2 of the bag & then plug this medallion type pattern into the center...somehow.

Now I feel like I can cast on for the upper 1/2 in the next couple days...

woohooo! I finished the band!

I think I want to change the bottom to have some sort of celtic dragon but not sure what yet so I'm on hold on it. I'm not sure if I really like the bottom cables.

off to google some patterns.

I was thinking the same thing. I didn't get much knitting done this weekend, but I'm about to finish the band (in 2 rows!!) Let me know if you find anything fun to put on the bag part!

so I started mine with the wool I have here, and I'm not so sure I like it now. I got the first two repeats done, messed up somewhere and things werent lining up so I frogged it all. : Then I started thinkin, maybe I should do it with something else,

I wonder how it will look in patons sws, with just the cables at the top and stocking stitch for the bottom... off to ponder...

I found a couple book recommendations if you're interested (I posted over at knitty...). Not sure what you're looking for exactly, though.

I don't like this pattern. :

Maybe because there is no such thing as not being interrupted while knitting in my home.

Well, I'm actually enjoying it so far. I've done 8 repeats on the top band and I like the way it looks. It isn't taking me nearly as long as I thought it would.

I'm actually using (gasp, horror) a cheap acrylic! I had leftovers from something I'd made for someone (their request, their yarn choice), and I had NO idea what to do with the leftovers. It was sitting in my stash mocking me. Since I won't be wearing it against my skin this was a good project for it. It is cream with a slight black speckle effect. It looks nice in the cable.

Anyone curious about the main part of the bag? 144 stitches on a 16" circular seems like too much!

Have you tried the Viking one? I had that out from the library a month or so ago & really liked it... in any case, I'm just waiting for that chart from Estelle designs that I linked in my other post.

yeah my library system has one copy and like 17 holds on it. I have some others that are on hold when they come back in so it's a waiting game.

Yup. I don't have 16" size 6 circs, and I don't have the $$ to order them, so I'm content to just use dpns. I love dpns.

Looks great! You've really got a lot done, huh. I've yet to cast on -- my brain can't handle more than the 3 projects (oh, and the 4th one that's in the bathroom ) I'm working on right now. Hopefully in a couple days, though. It's in a bag with the needles...

I don't think I ever PMed you to tell you that I love the scarf your daughter made -- thank her for me?

Pssst....that itty-bitty glimpse of your floor? It looks like mine -- but way cleaner!
