(I just realized this should probably have been posted in the sewing forum. Sorry! )

Hi!

I just received my own sewing machine for Christmas and I'm absolutely thrilled. However, I don't really know where to go from here! I've made a few shabby projects but I honestly just don't have a clue.

I'd like to make toys, dolls, and clothes for my little one, and be able to sew patches and whatnot when I need to.

Here's a list of the supplies I have:
-Plenty of fabric from my mom's stash
-Some spools of thread that turned out to be cheap and only like 5 yards long
-Sewing scissors
-Some patterns that are Greek to me
-Pins and needles of a few different sizes
-Plastic bobbins (I've read that metal is better?)
-Lots of ribbon
-Polyester filling

Help me get started! What else do I need?

Plastic bobbins are fine as long as they are the right size for your machine and you don't step on them.

Good thread is escential.

Can you sign up for a class? Craft store often offer them. Local community schools do too. If you can't find a class go to the library and see if they have videos and books on sewing. I learned alot about sewing watching Sewing With Nancy on PBS.

Throw pillows are a great first project.
