I really want to learn to knit. I was wondering if you think it is possible to learn from a book. Do you have any recomendations?
TIA.

Yes!

In December of 2001 I was desperate to learn to knit as fast as possible. A friend of mine bought me a book as a gift two days before I was to leave on a trip. By the time I was on the plane, I was knitting a scarf.

The book is, Learn to Knit in Just One Day.

Good luck! Knitting is such a fun hobby!

I learned basic stitched from a kids knitting book. Check your local library, they may have good resources.

Yes, it is - you can also drop in at most yarn stores with any questions - some stores are friendlier than others, shop around if you don't like the people. I love knitting. I have been doing it for - let's see. I was 9, now I'm... oh lordy. 26 years. It's a great anxiety reliever, and wonderful creative outlet.

I dont know if I could be of much help, but feel free to pm me.

I absolutely love the book Kids Knitting by Melanie Falick. I did learn to knit as a child, but forgot how, and I used this book to reteach myself a few years ago. And now I'm using it to teach my six-year-old.

Melanie Falick also has a baby book that teaches you how to knit. I didn't teach myself from it, so I can't vouch for it in that way, but the projects are just gorgeous.

I really enjoyed this book when learning to knit (still do!) The Knitting Goddess, by Deborah Bergman. Has some wonderful stories in it too. Good luck

Hey! I learned to knit from that kids knitting book too!

It is really a neat book it has lots of easy projects and beginner stuff. It has scarves, toy animals, backpack thingies, hats, sweaters, purses, just lots of fun stuff!! I love that book!

I made a few projects then made some of the toy animals, they are fun and easy.

I checked it out from my library but am thinking about buying it.

Thank you ladies so much. I am very excited. Bailey and I are going to go to the craft store and maybe the library this afternoon. I can't wait to give it a shot. I'll let you know when I finish my first fabulous project.

Hi ladies,

I first went to the library to see if they had a book to teach me to knit. I thought why not FREE. They had lots of books about knitting so I checked out three but none to specifically teach you how. I found them to be a little too complicated so I went to Hobby Lobby. I bought "10-20-30 Minutes to Learn to Knit". It was very easy. I didn't do all of the sample types of stitches like seed/moss. I was too excited to try to make something and I figured it was only knit & purl back and forth and I already knew how to do both. So I jumped right into the first project of making a dishcloth. I made a 10x10 cloth in two days. I was very impressed about how easy it was. I only had one little mistake. I don't have a digital cam but hope to get one soon. I will post a pic. Thanks for the help and encouragement.

It is so sweet. My dh wants me to make him a sweater. I think he was truely impressed.
