I also want to make these.they seem pretty easy....i think you could use a spray on starch to make them stand and be stiffer.Cotton maybe flannel work probably work best.i think they would be such a cute shower gift!
I actually got some "real" Pee Pee TeePees from a friend when I was preggo with DS...they are made of two layers of (I believe) single-napped flannel, and you wouldn't need spray starch or anything to make them stand up--the cone shape makes them stand up on their own.
Honestly, they didn't work. They weren't long enough, and they weren't absorbent enough. The one time I got it on and it stayed on and DS actually peepeed, it gushed out so fast the PPTP just couldn't absorb it all, and it flowed back up and out, all over his clothes. Which brings me to the "delicate" part--unless DS had an...ummmm..."stiffy", they didn't stay on when he moved.
If you wanted to make one, all you need to do is cut two circles of fabric (trace around a drinking glass or something), then cut out a pie-shaped wedge (about a quarter of the whole "pie") from both layers, sew both layers together at the bottom seam, turn right side out, and then sew the two edges of the "pie shape" cut together. I hope that made sense!
They're a cute idea, but I found it to be easier to just have a prefold handy in case of "fireman" issues...doesn't have the "Aw, how precious" factor, but it *actually* kept his clothes dry!
