My D'Oh! moment this morning

I was just sitting down to work out my cast-on for the infant version when it looked like the stitch counts were off. I found my interweave knits and read over the pattern there an realized that the cable is reversible - not faced like I had assumed from the picture.

Note to self - read the pattern first before talking about it.

Good to know. My SIL is expecting a baby this Fall and I haven't decided what to knit. This would be good.

I think red is the perfect color for a fall baby... think how dreamy it will look through the holiday season!

I somehow dropped or decreased a stitch somewhere in the middle of a cable row yesterday (yeah, not even on cable cable row, but the knits n' purls row) so I finally gave up and just did a thumb loop increase. Oh well. You can't really tell.

Mine's a February babe, Meg- if I go true to form, I'm expecting a Valentines Day arrival which is one of the reasons why I'm thinking red.

i think red will be lovely! now you all are making me wish i had red to use. i really wanted to try the andean treasure though and there wasn't a red. so i did finally decide though and ordered lagoon. not sure how long it will take to arrive, so i'm going to try to finish up a few other little projects while i'm waiting for it.

i'm going to be watching all of you who are sizing up. i'm doing this one in the size written but if it turns out well i might try to do bigger ones for my two bigger ones.

Helen- A valentines baby! Your wee one will look adorable in a red Merry!

Chrissy- Good choice!

I ordered my yarn from KnitPicks 1 week ago. I hope it arrives soon!

Wow! We're making some progress, huh? I worked on a few other projects I had OTN over the weekend (I can't knit in the car and read a pattern at the same time without :Puke, so I worked on my brainless, or as I prefer to call it, meditative knitting!), but I knit up my swatch today with the Marr Haven blue heather that arrived while I was out of town. I used US 3 needles--the smallest size I ever thought I'd own--and it didn't come out. I need to go down to 2s So my Merry is on pause until I can either get to my LYS for smaller needles or wait until the yarn I originally intended to use arrives. Oh, and I've also put a hold on the IWK issue at my library so I can check it out as soon as it's returned, but if all goes well it should be there by the time I'm done the back.

Aurora -- I'll take pix today, I promise! or tomorrow. I'm horrible about picture-taking in general. I put it off until the photo op is over.

Anyway, I'm about 6 rows from the top of the right front piece. It should go fairly quick, since the stockinette part is so much reduced now. 'though that's not exactly the thing that's slowing me down :-) Sunday night was a tough night in my knitting world. I got to the fifth decrease row, looked carefully, and convinced myself that my 4th decrease row had been spaced too far apart. So I picked out all the rows down to where I thought I should have decreased. Started up again and realized that I *had* done it right the first time. GYAAAA! And then I just kinda lost my place in the cable. All is well now and I steamed through a lot of it last night. It looks really pretty to me, 'though I know it will have its amateurishness at the end of the day.

Cranky baby. What's new? Must go.

megs- I hate it when that happens!

My yarn just arrived! I really like the color and am glad I chose it. I hope to swatch tonight.

Waiting on my needles still. Though I'm wondering if they're going to be too big since I got worsted weight yarn.

If that makes the sweater go up a size, that would be perfectly fine with me, but I wouldn't want much more than that.

My progress thus far...
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...digan_NB_1.jpg

Changes I made:

US Size 2 Needles (2.75mm), ~29sts/4"
Davidson Corp Domy Heather, Hollyberry (3.5oz/475yds)
knit in the round with a 4 st steek
CO 191
77 back
32 side
23 cable
4 steek
23 cable
32 side

I changed one of the sts in the moss border to a steek st (what would be the outer stitch if doing it as written). My plan is when I cut the steek I'll do an applied I-cord to cover everything up. I think it should work well since the yarn I'm using is intended for fair isle work and is very grippy. I also added a moss stitch hem rather than the faced one, I just did moss stitch for the first cable repeat then switched to stockinette.

I think I'm going to let Michael pick out the color he wants for his own sweater, so I won't get to work on sizing the pattern up until the weekend. I'll be doing his flat, but there won't be any seems.

Cute Jenn!

I am having guage issues. *sigh* I swatched on 3's and got 7.5 spi. My 4's are lost and my 5's are broken(and my other set I am knitting my MS3 on). I have dpn's though, just thought of that. At least I could swatch and figure out what size I need to get.

I kind of overlooked the swatching thing... I've measured as I've gone, though, and I think I'm getting it just right. I started on size 2 needles and bumped up to threes because it was riDICulously small. And frustrating.

Thanks Aurora

Megan - I hear you on frustrating. I was doing it on my 2.5mm addi lace needle and magic loop was driving me up a wall so I switched to my 16" 2.75 after the first couple of rounds. I know I'm going to need a 24" once I get the sleeves on because it just fits right now not to mention something longer for doing the sleeves but I may just suck it up and do 2 circs for that.

Jenn, that's soooo pretty! I'm glad you did the moss stitch border--I'm planning on doing it, too, but I get to see how cute it looks first!

This is OT, but I was just checking out your blog and fell in love with your chicken egg covers and chicks. What pattern did you use? I did a google search but yours are much cuter than the ones I found...

Thanks!

The chickens are an original pattern that will one day show up in my shop if I can ever carve out the time to actually write and test them.

Helen- What guage are you getting? I really want to knit a tiny Merry too.

OK, you guys! Pictures of my progress are now up on the DingoKnits blog. Click the link in Aurora's siggie to check it out.

I'm going to go fondle yarn at a groovy LYS today. After this sweater I want to make a cabled scarf for my hubs.

Yay! Pictures!

It looks amazing! You are doing such a good job! So, cables are addicting? This will be my first cable project and I am a bit nervous.

Ok, so I found a gift certificate I had to a local Waldorfy toy/craft store and ended up buying some new yarn (sock weight, in 'Desert Grass'), and my needles came too!
So, I've been working (slooowly ) on a swatch. Hopefully it's a little bit bigger gauge wise, but it should still fit him fine if it's not.

I am glad it came! I hope you get lots of knitting time in on your trip.

I cast on and knit a couple of rows last night.

I'm still waiting on my yarn (and I'd be grumpy about it if it weren't coming from a lovely little organic farm whose primary business is providing food and forwarding the earth-loving agenda!), but I picked up my copy of IWK today from the library. What a great issue! Are most of the issues that good? There's another sweater I want to knit, plus some really folksy-cool Christmas stockings, and two good articles! I'm thinking its worth the splurge at this rate!

I am seriously wanting a IWK subscription. as I have bought the last thrr of the newsstand. I devour them.

There is a pattern in the last winter one that I sooo plan on knitting for dd this fall. A gorgeous sweater called "Maid Marian" I think.

OK, back on topic now...

um, I haven't knit this at all, just living vicariously through you all since I have a bunch of LTK vests in queue first...

Heat? What's that?
Actually, that's unfair. We have horrible, muggy, humid rain and I'm sick of it. I want some good honest snow, but thanks to people who think the environment is disposable, I don't think that's an option

So I have needles, yarn (and the gauge is right!) and the magazine came. I'm ready to cast on! As soon as I figure out how many stitches. (I'm sizing up to 3-4T)
