Looks very cool! I love how she is giving everyone time to read the new HP book! I have never knit lace yet but I am anxious to see your progress on it!

It looks so interesting, but I'm a newish lace knitter. I might opt out. Hmmmm. What a decision.

Hmm. I signed up for the last one and never did it- since last year, though I've got into lace. I MIGHT be feeling better by then too...

I am certainly not a lace expert really. I have worked the monkey (knitty's sock) into a scarf with a tight gauge, and done the swallowtail shawl from IK. This, so far, is miles simpler than the Swallowtail. I am only on Clue one, but so far there has only been K and P, obviously, YO, K2Tog, and SKP (Slip one, Knit one, Pass slip stitch over) oh, and there have been just a couple where you slip, k2tog, then pass slipped stitch over.

But the Swallowtail, which really I have heard is a fairly good beginners lace, has P5, and that was a beeyotch for me.

I am really enjoying this one and as soon as I finish clue one I will post pics on my blog.

I'd love to join in but I don't currently have any laceweight yarn and I'm too poor to buy any!

A little over 800 yds is recommended. 900 to be safe. Misti Alpaca lace and KP lace are both pretty durn affordable if you ask me!

I am using this, only hand dyed for me in greys and blues . One hank would be enough at only 3.99~

Oh, and the designer recommends black or white or grey to stay in "theme" not that you have to, but you could use the bare undyed perfectly!

Woops! Edited to add the link...

So, I, um, joined.

I swatched last night and had loads of fun!

Question-I need to go buy needles. Planning on buying circular needles. What length should I get for this project?

Bella Babe-Do you have pictures yet?

When I finish the first clue, about 20 more rows, I will take a picture. I would like to lightly block, with a life line between each clue to get WIP pics.

I will post to my blog when I do!

And watch out, this is highly addictive!!!

I know!

This was a spur of the moment decision for me. I do not know if the yarn I had in my stash(given to me by my sister, no info)is laceweight or not. It is pretty thin, like my sock yarn. Anyways, I stayed up last night until 12:30 knitting the guage swatch and blocking it. Very unlike me. I LOVE my sleep!

I cannot wait to see your pics!

What size needles are you using?

I swatched on size 5's and think I may go up another size. I am a tight knitter. What length of circular needles should I buy? Pics are on my blog.

I signed up earlier today - glad I found you here. I'd rather chat with a few than thousands! I've still got to find some yarn and then get started. I've got loads of lace yarn, but not in the recommended colours. Should I stray? Or spend a bit and get something in a nice slate grey?

nak-

My LYS sucks! They didn't have the addi lace needles, lace yarn was pathetic, only a couple of KPS patterns(none of the ones I wanted), tons of fun fur/novelty/acrylic. :

Anyways, I think my yarn is more of a fingering weight. I am not in love with the color but it is what I have so it is getting used. My mom would love it, I will probably give it to her. I am just excited for this project!

friendtoall-welcome! I am using blue-swatch on my blog. I think you should use whatever you want. I would love a nice slate gray!

that's too bad aurora. : Why not get some KP shimmer? It's their lace weight silk/wool blend and it's yummy. and I am sure you could find some addi lace needles online as well, though I am really please with my lacework on KP options. Like I said I am doing this one on size 4s and it's fine.

KP could be your cyber one stop shopping! (I know, I know, I am an enabler. And no, I don't work for Knit Picks...)

Friendtoall, I am not doing it to Melanies suggestion wither. I have some lovely laceweight dyed for me by a mama here in a magic ball swap months back that has just been waiting for this. Shades of blue, grey, and a mushroomy brown. I think it will be lovely and If I really adore the pattern I will just do it again in white or black for an authentic experience, lol

Enabler! Don't you dare tell my dh -- but 3.99?! How can I NOT join? Never mind that I almost joined yesterday when I read about it on the yarn harlot's blog.

I actually went back to one of my lys today to check out some "Mountain colors" handpainted I saw -- since I didn't know how much it was. Of course I KNEW it would be out of my pricerange (since I had about...$10 left in my weekly budget...) and yea, $24/skein (it was mohair!)... ah well...maybe someday soon... The knitpicks will come out lovely, I'm sure!

wow, the shimmer is pretty! I am too excited to start to wait for yarn to come. I think I will just knit this one in my blue yarn for my mom and then another one later for me.

Yeah, but you know, you should probably buy yourself some anyways, you know, just in case.

OK, oK, enabling over. Has anyone else cast on?

I am on row 85 of clue one, and I hope to stay up late tonight after the man and the babe are asleep and knock out the last 15. Then I can get it blocking over night for a pic tomorrow.

That's the PLAN anyways...

Arg! I am at 97. Netflix xame in yesterday with "training day" dh has been wanting me to watch this since we met, so we put it in. I couldn't watch that and concentrate on lace so I worked on my LTK vested interests. now i am so close, but baby is awake. My mother in law is coming over to visit the baby while I clean today so maybe I will work on the last bit while she is here.

pics to come soon, my dearest I promise!!!

I picked up some yarn today. It is lace weight alpaca, I would describe the colour as charcoal green. I told my LYS owner that I was doing the MS and she said many people have come in for it. That's surprising, as this is a pretty small town. Another customer overheard us talking and she is also working on it. We might have to have a local knit-in! I never knew this was such a knitting town. I guess that's what happens when you have small children and do most of your shopping online.

Yes, I cleaned. My house was in sad shape as of late, and my parents, siblings, mil, etc were all coming over for dinner to welcome home the little ones. So my house is all shiny now. My wonderful mil wet dusted the whole living room/dining/office space and kitchen for me. Blinds, etc. I have killer allergies and my breathing is really affected by the dust. So it's a vicious cycle, The dusting needs to be done regularly so I can breathe, but dusting make me not be able to breathe... (Actually I just got an inhaler and it's doing wonders.)

but I digress. The kids are home and fighting sleep right now. And I am uploading pictures of my quite poorly blocked lace- Clue#1!!! Bad blocking but I will probably redo it after I am all finished with the stole.

Check my blog in a minute. Actually, no. I will update my blog tomorrow, I don't feel like being online anymore. Check my album here

Happy Knitting all!
